    Back at it,,,

Decided to get the Black build out from corner of storage and see if it worked. Just about a year ago all I had to do was add oil, water + gas but simply rolled in the corner of storage area and forgot about it.
Last Sunday I rolled it out + added fluids,,, kicked it over way to many times, had the Mrs. pull me around with the Bigred only to discover it was not getting fuel thru the brand new never used carb.
Not sure whats up with that carb. Rolled another stock Tecate out that has not been started in 2 years + fuel smelled worse then a bad fart but it started on 2nd. kick and idled.
Took that carb off and bolted on my Black Tecate and had a short test ride on it.
While the Mrs. was pulling me around the yard I discovered the engine must have had some work done to it compression wise because I could barely get it to turn over in 5th. gear plus it has a slow drip from case centers,,,,
So I decided to pull the motor from the stocker, sand blasted it and freshened up the paint. This afternoon I swapped out nickel chromed bolts from the motor I did not much care for into the stocker.
Decided to have a look at the flywheel and was totally amazed it run. Swapped that crusty one out for one of my encapsulated flywheels (after cleaning up the coils).
I suppose I will be test riding the Black Tecate again tomorrow once I get the engine re-installed.

    Wow, that tank shines.
Good looking build, hopefully it fires right up tomorrow.

lookin good. I have that same problem. Life got in the way a couple yrs ago and my X got pushed into a corner. 2 weeks ago, I started draggin it out to finish and the gas tank is full of rust and varnish now from where I forgot to drain it, pcs. are missing from where I "borrowed" stuff for other stuff, and I had forgot about a bunch of little things I hadn`t wrapped up yet and I have two others in similar shape to get ready for TF. Not much time left!

I`m still in for an A1-A2 flywheel and I really like the green intake rubber (incorrect term, I`m sure) manifold. I suppose that's your product as well? Nice!

Yes, a Silver Lake trip (or two) should be in our plans this year !
I tinkered around most of the day on the engine install and got it running but definitely need some different jets then the stock sizes.
I lost my whole container of carb parts last year (maybe why I put it in the corner last year ?) , there was a kings ransom of jets/carb parts ,,,, time to order more.

How much tinkering did you end up doing John? Did you ever get any good ride time ? I ended up getting the other tank from kevin and the first thing I noticed was there is no hole in the rubber gasket under the cap to let the tank breathe. A simple fix but would make tuning nearly impossible.

Yes I did end up putting about 2 hours of riding around the neighborhood on the Black Tecate.
As I recall the gas tank cap had just a piece of flat rubber in it and I swapped it out for a stock tecate rubber gasket/insert I had on hand. So that really never gave me any problems since I done that long before putting fuel in the tank. Can't recall if it had a vent hole or not on the rubber flat gasket that the tank came with,,,
After a couple of hours on it I just drained all fluids again and rolled it back into its corner cause I was on the hunt for a quad to convert for a daily rider to replace the Bigred.

Congrats on the score Ben ! Will it be at TF2015 ???

I wouldn't miss it.(tf) I only mentioned it because I would hate to see you dicker around with it forever only to learn the tank was vapor locked. The trike I am building has no purpose at haspin so it probably won't be there. It will be at pine lake in July though.
