Question 83-85 200x larger tank shrouds- Do they really work?

hi. ebay has a set of maier larger-than-oem tank shrouds/air directors. i like to go really fast on my 200x, and i worry that it will overheat and ruin my piston rings or other things. will larger shrouds really work?
    thx

IMHO, they are just for aesthetics. I don't know that they perform any better than OEM shrouds.

I imagine that they do direct more air down the frame to the air box but like yaegerb said its pretty much for looks. I have have a set on mine just because they look better than oem

No need. I ran my 200x with 11:1 compression a xr cylinder with the little fins and had no issues. Now I'm at 11.5:1 with an x cylinder still go really fast down roads and trails with no issues. Run 20w-50 synthetic and 110 she stays nice and cool. Full advance on the timing too.

i got mine running a port an polished xr topend punched out to a 201cc 11.5 to 1compression ratio piston with a 30mm carb and supper trap pipe and have never had a problem with over heating got the stock tank shrouds as well. If your worried about over heating it then put an oil cooler on it, but you should have no problems if its some what stock.
