I really want to get an 86 250R and go trail riding in Minnesota, problem or potential problem is the DNR says the decible level has to be under 99. Will I get away with that on a 250R or has any seen other 250R's out on the trails. I hate to get one only to find out the fun police shut me down.

You can get them quiet enough thats not a problem. The state guys will only have a fit if you don't have a spark arrestor!

I built a silencer for my ATC with a 330 big bore motor and its pretty quiet. Its 5" dia by 18" long I just got back the rest of the pieces to make the spark arestor. FMF turbine core will get you a ticket in Wisconsin the way the dnr test here. 105 db on a stock 250R with a FMF system is what I tested at. It sucks the 4 strokes are ridiculously loud and ruin it for everyone but there quiet at idle.

Will the stock pipe and silencer be quiet enough?

The stock exhaust should be quiet enough, but bear in mind that in MN if you get to the point that a DNR guy pulls out a dB meter you better have a spark arrestor cause he is going to check over the exhaust.

The stock muffler came with a S/A but its removable. You wont have a problem with the stock system with noise.

We ride in MN and we have never had any problems our 250r. We ride at
Appleton ATV park.

Hey! I'm from Minnesota. I'm up north in the country with a pretty big sandpit to ride my trike around in so you don't have to worry about noise here lol. You should come on up! I need someone to ride with that has a trike as well. Still looking for a 250r though I only got my 200M.
