86 "X" help

I hate starting threads but can't find anything on here.
After 2 years I am getting close to having my 86 200x moving. Yesterday i got the cam back in, head on and everything adjusted according to spec. This also includes the left crankcase cover/gasket and all bolts, as well as getting rid of that horrible cobra exhaust and fabbing up a pipe and mounting a "E" series muffler. It started fairly fairly easy. About 15 seconds into idle it started blowing oil out the left case cover (past the new gasket) just above the foot peg and below the countershaft sprocket. Soooo anyone have any idea what is causing this to occur? To my knowlege the gasket is not pinchedor broken. A few years ago, on my wife's DX the screen by the Drain plug was clogged by sludge which caused too much case pressure and forced oil into the the airbox. Well the "X" has no screen on the drain plug so what's causing this over pressure. Thanks, in advance!

I highly doubt too much oil pressure unless there is 3 quarts in there

Take it off, You could have an incorrect bolt length, too short or long of a bolt, stripped threads and or not perfectly mating surfaces. Cracked cover or damage from a chain??

No other reason I can see it leaking. I also grease my gaskets and can re use them often. I never use silicone , just 3 bond where noted.

It didn't blow oil out until it had been sitting for a year

Call me crazy, but I'd suggest you look and see where the oil is coming from then go from there. You've got the answer right in front of you. We can't see anything.

I believe that pretty much describes where it is comming out. Just wondering why you would add a post simply to try to make me feel like a complete bonehead? Did it make you feel superior? You certainly were not trying to help! I apologize for taking up your precious time! OH, wait a second.... You completey chose to read this and make the snide remark. I'm sorry I asked. I don't know what your problem is, but I meant what I said. Step one is locating the problem. You've done that. Now dig in and fix it. You know the location of the leak. Disassemble and diagnose now. If you feel like a bonehead that's your problem.

Let me sort this out for you kind people.

The man's machine is leaking oil. He asked for suggestions as to why it might be leaking. I want you, Husky250 and JustEnough, to take a look at how many people have replied here. Myself, Dirtcrasher, and tx200m. Three people have replied to this thread in about a week. That is not a lot of replies. The lack of replies are due to the fact that there's really nothing any of us can do for you from the other side of a computer. I understand if you are looking for help, but you're completely missing what I was telling you.

Do you think it's a coincidence that the last area you worked on is the very same area that is leaking? Of course it could be coincidence. There is a chance that a rock could have kicked up and cracked a case or a cover in that same spot. Both DC and tx200m's suggestions were very good, but that's about as much as we can suggest. There is no way we can pinpoint an oil leak for you over the internet. You take my comment as snide, I'm a pompous ass, say what you want. The truth of the matter is you're offended for me pointing out what everyone here already knows. I'm not going to sugar coat it, I say what's on my mind. And what was on my mind this time is that you have an oil leak in front of your face but instead of grabbing your wrenches and seeing what's causing it you come on here and ask us. We have no way of knowing what's causing your oil leak, you have the machine right in front of you, look at it and figure it out. I fail to see why you would be insulted by this.

I am not perfect. I have assembled many, many things only to have to rip them apart and do again when I find out I did something wrong. Guess what? We've all done that! And I know I'll do it again.

It's sad how insulted people get these days when you try and teach them something. When I was growing up there was no internet. When your bike broke down you grabbed your tools and fixed it because nobody was going to do it for you. That's how I learned. Any monkey can throw parts at a problem and hope it cures it, but it takes a real mechanic to diagnose. To narrow it down to one part or one problem and then fix it. I'm trying to get you to open your eyes, exercise your brain, and learn something like I did. But I'm a pompous ass?

DC and I were on the phone last night laughing about you because of your ridiculous replies in this thread. You have an oil leak. OK. You say the gasket wasn't pinched, but have you disassembled it yet? Did your shift shaft seal blow? Did you crack anything while riding? Did you use too long or too short of a bolt during assembly? These are all things that you will have to see personally, as we can not see it for you. That is all I was saying. And you start to weep and stomp off "never to return". Well guess what, you're back already and I never left. Nor will I be leaving anytime soon so you better learn to cope.

Most of those who are reading this now already know me. To those who don't, I do not just attack people for no reason. I speak my mind, I never lie, and I attempt to educate. You are the one who took offense Husky, and for no good reason. I never insulted you. You felt like a bonehead and that's your problem.

Now grab your tools, dig into it, and let us know what you find.

I have to go with Flabio on this one, well at least his first post, after that it gets nasty on all sides, but with respect to his original post I’d just add that you need to clean it up well, put it up on blocks, get a flashlight and pedestal fan to place in front of the engine to keep it cool, start it up in gear if needed and watch to see where the oil comes from. There are just too many places that oil could be coming from and it is unlikely that anyone here will be able to pin point it for you based solely on the information of your first post.

I hope it turns out to be something simple and easily replaced.
