250 big red rims

Newbie here guys!! I have a 87 big red mint shape. As of this week lift front 3 inches and rear 2 inches. I have my brand of tires I want, now just have to decide on rims. I see all the guys are going with a 12x7 rim. Has anyone tried 14 inch rims are is there a weight difference or is it just cause of looks that the 12" is used!

The only concern I remember is that you really don't want to
increase the angle of the driveshaft / U joints by very much.
