    87 250sx axle no worky in 85 250sx?!

My sisters 85 sx has a bent axle, we swapped the differential of an 87 onto her 85 and it's fits/ works fine, but I remember comparing the 85 and 87 axles and them being different lengths. Since swapping the diff over she rode and bent the axle, now we need a new axle and only have an 87. Will the 87 250sx axle work in the 85 250sx with the 87 250sx differential installed on the 85sx swinger and bike?! Wow that was hard to type correctly! Let me know! Thanks guys

The axles have different part numbers so something changed. I would say to go with another 85 axle.

    85 Axle Part No 42311-HA6-000

    86 Axle Part No 42311-HA6-680

    87 Axle Part No 42311-HA6-680

How is your sister bending the axles? Thats not easy to do on the SX.

She says it's wobbling really bad after Rogers memorial ride in Michigan, I think she said she clipped a tree and dumped it over. My first guess was bent axle, i want to look at it this weekend.

And Erics 400x bent the axle on a ride a month ago at st joe just from hitting a tree, I was shocked to see how easy that happened! And I never bent an axle in my 85 250sx and I beat the heck out of it!

I would think if the axle is bent, the axle tube(s) might be damaged as well.

make sure the hubs are tight... and lug nuts...like others said .. the enclosed axles are more forgiving to trees and such...

Ditto, I've bent the tubes, axle and the swinger. Bolt together swingers only hold up so much.........

thanks for the responses guys, i will do my best to actually take a look at it this weekend. Its probaby not the axle but Im expecting the worst. I might look at swapping the swinger from the 87 over to her 85, they are compatible right?

Yep, the entire rear end, swinger, swaps over. I have an 86 rear end on my 85 Army trike. Better setup anyway.
