    Home made leak down tester

    Hey guys,

Just thought I'd start my own post on how to build a leak down tester for under 15 bucks. Since I can't post on the main forum yet heres an example for any new members.

I found all the supplies at menards in the plumbing section. Do not waste your time looking for the low range pressure gauge at lowes or home depot as they don't carry them at least in indianapolis.

0-30 psi gauge (Watts Band) around ten bucks

3/4 mpt thread galvanized pipe about a dollar

3/4 fpt to 1" fpt 90 degree elbow galvanized adapter about 3 bucks ( The large end of this piece will need to have an outside diameter that fits inside your intake boot) 1" inside diameter gave me the correct outside diameter for my 84 250R with stock carb.

    Hope this helps.

By the way the pressure gauge already has a valve stem to air it up.

This is for testing for engine leaks from the intake to the exhaust port. In a two stroke a compression test will only test above the piston leting you know if your rings and head gasket is sealing. A leakdown test will test the crankcase and intake boot. If someone can give detail On performing the test that would help im on my iphone and it takes forever to type. If not ill do it later from home. You will need a freeze plug that fits the exhaust port as well.
