197? husqvarna300 dirtbike help

my son just picked this up. looking for help in identifying it more .and its worth .motor is set up and bike is complete with working brakes also has piggyback rear shocks,dont know if there stock or not ..any help appreciated .

Looks like an 84 to me, first year plastic tan, last year twin shock, if it has a 3 in it its likely a 360, came stock with Ohlins ITC Piggybacks, its a great bike well wort restoring, but parts do not come cheap

Same for me: 84.

But I don't remember there was 360 in the 80's. I would say 360 arrived in the 90's.

For me, in the end of 70's begin 80's there was 390, and just after 430.

I'm going with an '85. My first race was on an 84 and they certainly had steel tanks... my nuts would agree. The first year for single shocks was 1986. In '85 Husqvarna made a 125 (cr, wr, xc), 250 (cr, wr, xc), 400 (wr I believe was the only model in the 400), 500 (cr, xc and no wr if memory serves). The 360 didn't come around until well into the 90's. In 1985 the only model that still had a front drum brake was the wr. The xc's and cr's had a front disc brakes in '85. The '85 wr is the last year you can vintage race because they still had that front drum brake. The cr's and xc's are ineligible because of the front disc (unless you swap out with a wr front end). From the looks of the jug it looks like a 250 but the pic makes it a little harder to determine that by merely judging the size of the jug. If you really want to find out you can go to huskyclub.com or vintagehusky.com. Those sites have a section that you can use to identify your husky by frame number and motor number. Parts aren't that hard to find. There is a pretty big following for the old husky's, from early 60's all the way through the mid 80's. Once you find those guys they can keep your bike running like a top. It works for my '82 250cr. .... 3 more things. (1) Please be kind to it, they are a classic race bike. (2) also, it takes a certain kind of rider to ride a husqvarna. Noticed I didn't say it takes a good rider , but it does take a guy that knows how to ride a husky, they just seem to be different. Ride it like a honda and you will end up in the hospital. I've seen it many many many times. Guys that can tear me up on the track try to take my husky for a spin and end up bailing. (3) If you want to get rid of it let me know, I bet i have someone that would be interested.

I ts definitely an 84 tank and its a XC/WR frame (because of the rear loop, CR's did not have them)
You got me on the 360, they came both earlier and later...
85's were indeed the first with a mono shock but not all models had them, also the first year water cooling came into the picture for Husky
83 was the last year for metal tanks and they were aluminum (I have both an 83 & 84 500XC awaiting restoration in my garage)

All depends on condition (better pictures?) I just recently traded a fairly rough but running 86 400 Cross for a 01 YZ 125 in fair shape with a new cylinder/crank to go with it, I was asking $700 for it, but likely would have left it go for around $500, you are probably in that range restored or even semi-restored for vintage racing they bring some decent money with 83 and back a bit more desirable (metal tank years) 85's and up are harder to find parts for because of the introduction to water cooling and the sale to Cagiva in 87, Cagiva had some nice bikes themselves and simply re-badged the Cagiva's as Husky's, where the problem started was they almost immediently discontinued parts for the Swedish models and Husky fans with a bad taste in their mouth went elsewhere for their bikes, that one stupid business decision on parts availability nearly killed the brand all together untill They finally started to rebound in the late 90's, they are now owed by BMW and they are doing some serious R&D, even talking about a direct injection street legal two stroke in the next couple years, and they have some really great bikes right now.... Sorry for the rant, but I could run on about Husky's all day...

its and 84, 85 had mono shock. i looked at a 530 in highschool for a hillclimb bike. its worth more in parts then together. if you need great husky help you need to contact www.toytechcycles.com they are the best husky dealer in PA i know of and the guy deals with all the vintage stuff also...he buys old ones for parts.

Well come on Killer inquiring minds want to know! What's the verdict? It's certainly a bike in the transition period. I'm thinking we are all rignt on our assumptions. Such as the mono shock in 85 but certainly not on the WR... At least not the one in my Garage and the 84wr certainly had a metal tank, I guarentee that, as I said my nuts can prove it! that 85/86/87 stuff was per model. My first real bike was an 82 250wr, my first race of my young life was on an 84 250 wr..... WOW I miss that thing! Buddy had an 82 250 wr with a 5 gallon (plastic) tank that we called the "beast". His brother's 1st was a 73 or 74 125cr (wow was it LOUD). I currently race an 82 250 cr and my buddie's dad still races his 85 250wr (dual shock),trying to chase his umteenth amateur nation title. He still has a couple 74 250's as well as his pride and joy a 1966 250wr.... Yep that one is rare! Huffie is right about the water cooling in 85 on most machines. However, just in case you are wondering, if you crash your 82 and punch a big hole in the side case the 85 case will fit as long as you make a plate to seal off the spot where the cooling lines go into it (yes we had to do that). We also have sitting around, in various states of disrepair, a 79 390cr and an 81 390 wr with the cr tank on it (boy is it small). In late 87 my buddies dad got him a 250 cross country with a motocross head on it. Place called Wetzel's in mentor Ohio was the shop back in those days. Whatever they did to that bike it sure flew in the woods! Someone stole it and we never saw it again. I swear that thing would keep up with a modern 450 4 stroke.... What a bike it was. Yes we love Huskys... so.... don't leave us hanging!

sorry for leaving you guys hanging. honestly,its been in the shed since he bought it.he found a honda xr 250r ready to ride he s been playing with instead.i will get it out and try to get some #s off it and try to find out what it is .if anyone is interested in it lmk.
