'83 185S tube?

My dad's 185S's front tire is in good shape, but it either leaks out a few sidewall cracks or the split rim. He's been running tubes in it for years, but lately, after a year or so the valve stem rips out of the tube. The reason is cause the valve stem on the tubes he's been getting don't quite line up with the hole in the rim. Any idea where we can get a tube made for this application, not just a generic one for that size with the stem in the middle of the tube? It gets ridden rarely in the desert, so he doesn't want to dump time or money in a new tire or wheel.

Anything you do is going to involve money in my opinion. I would buy a used single piece rim and tire. Look on craigslist for a used tire. I have plenty of rims. What year do you have? I'm am not a big fan of tubes in tires at all. Every time you get a flat, it has to be broken down to be fixed which then requires more money. Tubeless you can just stick a plug in and re air it. Your other option is throw a pos on there (tubeless) and fill with slime but i would fix it right so you dont have to mess with it again for a long time.

The tubes ripping out the valve stem could be caused by too low of pressure in it. I run tubes in a lot of tires myself. I have found you must run 4lbs pressure at the MIN or the tube will slip and tear the valve stem off. Hope it helps.

I know he typically runs it at about 4psi. The tube normally goes out when its sitting in the trailer between seasons, which leads me to believe that tubes aren't what they used to be...

Some of the better quality tubes will have the threaded and nut valve stems .
