200x engine swap jetting issue, help needed

I've recently put a 1982 Honda atc 200 engine in an '84 200x, but in order for it to fit I had to remove the carb insulator (the intake spacer between the head & carb), now it won't run, it fires but won't start, so I am assuming the carb needs to be re-jetted now that the insulator is missing. So my question is would I have to jet it leaner or richer? does moving the carb closer to the head make an engine run richer or leaner?? & would I use a bigger or smaller needle jet to fix this problem?

How did you get the carb connected to the engine if you removed the intake boot? Is there something I'm missing?

There are 4 holes for bolts in the head, the carb just bolted right up.

This. ailll1: Do you mean the intake manifold? To me the boot is what goes from the carb to the airbox

kormos: Got a couple of pics? Sounds like you are trying to eliminate the intake manifold. You can't do that. The manifold is where the fuel and air start to mix on the way to the head.

You'll need a 200X manifold for the carb to fit

Scootertrash is right, you need to use a 200x maniold, it comes out at a different angle than the 185/200s and the carb will not hit the frame. Good luck!

O.K, thanks scootertrash & yamaha_rules. I guess I will have to find an intake manifold from a 200x (the trike had no motor when I got it) so I just assumed I could eliminate the manifold & make it work with a bit of re-jetting. Since I have never seen an intact 200x motor & have no idea how the stock manifold angles to avoid the frame.
