The New Guy. Edited for family content

Hey everyone. I always hated forums with a passion, but I have found the one place I want to be a member. I grew up riding my extremely dangerous and "illegal" 1987 Honda 250es Big Red. I might not have beaten the out of it like I did; if I had known what I actually had. I am starting a restoration on my beast soon and will most likely need some support and knowledge. The last thing I remember about riding it was; the electric start had stopped and kick starting her was slowly becoming useless.

A little bit about myself. I spent six years in the U.S. Army as a medic. I was deployed with 3rd Brigade Combat Team 1st Infantry Division 1-26 Blue Spaders to the Kunar Province, Afghanistan. OEF 08-09. Then I became a Flight Medic after completing the Flight Medic Training Course at Ft. Rucker, AL. I flew MEDEVAC with Flatiron Air Ambulance Detachment for two years before separating from the army.

The only way I will ever feel a thrill that even comes close to stepping out onto the skid of my aircraft and being hoisted down to the ground to do my job..... Is if I take my 250es to its limit after restoration. I hope you all can help me out along the way.

I'm going to be starting a project which will be my 1984 Honda ATC 200 ES, i bought it for a $100, and i am not regretting it, even though it isn't running, it needs a CDI Box, and is going to need much more than that but as a bare minimum, it needs the CDI Box too run. If anyone has a Working CDI for sale, plz let me know!!

I have a starter or two, I can test before shipping etc. For the "kick starting her was slowly becoming useless" I'm going to guess when you kicked it, sometimes it slips? Most likely it is the one way bearing on the primary clutch. It is around $100 new on ebay, but I picked up the whole clutch assembly for $25 used with good bearings . MOST 250sx parts interchange with the 250es engine. One test you can do to know for sure is to rev the engine a bit and turn off the key. If you hear a whirring noise, it should be that bearing. Another sign if it is completely gone, is that the engine don't brake when letting off the gas (mine didn't do this and is pretty gone), or if you push it in gear, it does not always turn the engine over (mine does this).

If you need front end parts or rearend parts, I have a 250sx with a big red front end and rear plastics/rack that I'm planning to part out in a couple of weeks.

You should post a new thread with your request. I don't have a spare, sorry.

Just curious as to what kind of impression you would are trying to make by introducing yourself in your very first post as "The FNG "F**king New Guy" just so I know that the one I got is what you were shooting for.

Thanks for the trouble shooting help ps2fixer. The kick starting never actually started to wear out any internals.... Well, not that caused any problems with the bearings. I will check it out tho. I was a kid the last time I tried starting it and I didn't know much about mechanical trouble shooting. Hah. I just got home from school one day, hopped on my trike, and she never started. I almost cramped from trying 2 kick start it.

TimSr, I didn't know I needed to make an impression for anyone on this forum. If we are going to go by first impressions, then I am getting one from you that tells me you didn't find FNG amusing. I am also gonna guess u were never in the military... not saying this to insult you, but it is a term soldiers know. What impression did you think I was shooting for? I am not some little prick 24 year old. I am a combat wounded veteran that has earned a bronze star with valor. I just make light of every situation. Sorry.... I am an ass.

FNG is the term used in the military to describe a soldier that is brand new to his/her first unit. So, I guess I was trying to say I am new at this, but I do have enough "training/experience" to get by with a little help and encouragement.

I will be posting pics of my 250es soon. Just moved, again, and it is gonna be another week before my trike gets down to me. I am excited. Its like Christmas on Halloween, except my toy is broken.

And the ironic thing is... I'm 24 lol!

If it has been sitting for a long time, it is almost a sure thing you will have to pull the carb and clean it up. Spark would be the another thing to concern me.

I don't mind helping as much as I can... I only have 5 250es, 2 spare engines, and 2 250sx machines. Kind of got more than I planned, only wanted one 250es, but a deal came buy for 5. Anyway, even though your toy is broken, you can learn a lot about it, so if\when it brakes again, you will be more experenced with it.

I'm not sure who edited it, hopefully the OP. Thank you for doing so. As part of the moderation team I'd just like to remind everyone that this is a family friendly website and accessible by all ages. I understand if you were referencing a joke or well known abreviation but the typing around the filter (it may have auto edited your title) isn't tolerated on this forum.

Also remember you are new, there are people who have much history on this forum and are well respected (TimSR being but one of many), I understand making an impression, but I would think being part of the military you'd also understand that sometimes its smarter to settle in and find the pecking order before shaking the tree. Or maybe put another way, I hope you always gathered intel before storming into a firefight guns blazing.

Welcome to the board, and good to have a new member.
And that's the rest of the story. ~ Paul Harvey
