1985 atc 110 crankcase separation
I finally got the engine dropped and began to separate the crankcase. The manual says to use a 16 mm socket to remove the lock nut on the clutch but there's no way that's gonna work. Also I have removed the flywheel and stator??? I removed all the screws and began to separate but it seems something is still holding it together, but what. There's about 3/16 of a gap between the two halves but thats it. Also I tried to separate the halves by holdi g and smacking the crank and other shaft with a brass mallot, is this a bad idea? A YouTube video showed a guy do it this way. Btw the reason I opening it is to clean metal shavings out as a valve broke and put a hole in the piston crown a 50 cent piece in diameter.

You said the 16mm wont work for the clutch? Is that cus the clutch just turns or is it the nut with cut-outs around it? Because you have to take that off before you can split the cases.
-
It won't work cuz its the nut with cutouts. Is there a tool for this or maybe a homemade remedy. Also since the clutch needs removed I assume the gear does too.

yes and yes. I got a 200x i just made the tool for. Basically you gotta size it up with the right size socket, measure and mark the socket sides to fit in the grooves, then grind it. Mine was like the top of a castle with 4- 3/8 squares in a cross pattern. Most important thing i found is to leave as much meat on each little nub you can. First time around i made em pretty skinny and they didnt hold up for long. Snapped after a couple uses. A socket you can use on an impact gun is what you need. Once you got it made on my 200x you put a pennt or copper washer in between the clutch drive gear and oil pump drive gear i think it was. To lock it up. Then hit the clutch nut with an impact gun. Be sure to use something copper in between the gears. Any harder metal can do damage. I forget if the clutch nut was reverse thread or not.

Ok I'll have to try that tomorrow also when I crack the case open are there gonna be any springs and such shooting out.
-
Na just tranny gears lol. All you gotta do is start to split it a lil and put it on a table with the right half down and pull the left half up and off.

Okay thanks hopefully the gears aren't chipped from the piston chunks.
