85 honda big red choke issue

    Issue is it's not there.

i picked up a total basket case a couple weeks ago and have been reassembling, rebuilding and refinishing as needed
at some point one of the previous owners cut the choke cable and everything is gone from the carb onwards. the end of the cable is wraped in tape. i'm pretty nervouse to dig in and start fixing this issue since i'm not sure why they CUT THE CABLE. I have search to try and find what the choke control is suposed to look like but im not seeing anything. been curious if the choke can be replaced with a primer instead (since i have a primer allready)? i recall back when i was tinkering with jetski's that was the hot ticket. However ive never been in a carb for one of these and am not fure if its even feesible to install the primer.

I do realize all the parts are available aftermarket and might just have to go that route but i'm pretty confident that I can make an actuator for the choke if i get and install a new cable

Along with a new choke cable, this is all thats needed to get the choke working again.

A primer will not work with the ES carb.

yep, very easy when you have all the parts.... is the original choke still in the carb ? it's got a 13 or 14 mm nut you loosen to get it out.... but often are stuck in ?????

appears everything is still in the carb. it has an angled piece coming out of the carb and there is an inch or two of cable past that where its cut. im hoping everything is still in the carb and would like to find what is listed as the "plunger" near the handlebars however i'm not willing to pay "plunger" prices.

i'm gonna head to the garage now and try and remove the internal parts. hopefully as easy as everyone says

looked over those pics last night. but its still much appreciated.

welp time to do more searching.
removed the plastic cable holder and hold down nut and what was left of the cable sheath realized no cable once it was all removed, underneath the holder and nut was what appers to be whats left of the plunger. its seized in pretty good. tried removing with a small pair of needle nose pliers with no movement at all. going to search further tonight and dig in a little deeper tomorrow.

seems like the choke must have froze up and somone attempted to mucle it and broke the actuator them probably tired to force it with a pair of pliers either braking the internal carb plunger then just nixed the whole thing and called it a day and left it for the next person to worry about

well i did some searching and from what i'm reading it seems as tho im going to really need luck on my side to get it out. tried a little and now have it soakig in pen-oil.
ended the attempet by drilling a small shallow hole in the center of the plunger and startig a sheetmetal screw into it to have somthing to grab onto. the screw is set in hard enough the I snaped the head off tightening i (still have about 1'' sticking out to grasp onto) tried to wiggle, tap, turn, about everything and it just wants to stay put. so hopefully the pen helps loosen things up some.

not going to order a carb kit or replacement parts until this dang thing comes out incease i am forced to take flyingW up on his offer

    so sorry.
I had one take me almost 2 months of soaking.
I eventually just boiled mine in vinegar since I had nothing to lose.

I just left mine as it was for a while and hand choked the s.o.b. until
I got another 250 to ride and fixed it correctly.

fw has the carbs and would not hesitate to go that way if it happened again.

I'm too old to fix stuff that doesn't want to be fixed.
