    84 225dx brakes

i picked up a blue 84 yamaha 225dx off of craigslist, the bike is very clean and is 90% original and complete. after goin through it and finding all the things that the previous owner witheld, i discovered that it didnt need new pads in the rear, the pads look original and dirty, i replced them with new pads and still i have no brakes,, so i tryed shimming the caliber with washers nd it works a bit but not where it should. the adjusters are all maxed out tight. what else could this be? cable too stretched? or what? any help would be very much appreciated

im not sure on a yamaha but if it has a piston inside it take a c clamp and push the piston back in a bit and see if when you try the brakes it -push's it back out... also spray a lubricant on the piston before doing this.. also dont get any lubricant on new pads.. i would remove them before you do this procedure .. if it works repeat this step till you get desired brake action...good luck
