    Should I be concerned

So I dropped my three wheeler off three weeks ago for a valve job, and it was supposed to be done in a week. So I call on the weekend and the guy at the desk tells me it's not ready call in a two or three days. Okay understandable parts are hard to find, they probably don't have a manual on hand, etc.. So mid week I stop in and talk to the mechanic he fires it up says its all good he just need ls to adj. the valves and carb call back on the weekend. So I decide to drop in instead if caling on the weekend and he says the same thing, but come back next weekend. At this point I'm wondering how much im getting charge at $75 an hour for him to adjust my carb and valves which I could have done myself in a day. To top that off I realize there's no resemblance of a nipple left on any of the three brand new tires, then to put the icing on the cake the mechanic ask me what that blue oily crap on my air filter is, when I tell him it's air filter oil he says, "huh I ain't never heard of that crap what's it fer, I cleaned it off real good with carb cleaner so you wont have to worry about that anymore." are you kidding me? He also claims he did the valves without pulling the motor, is that possible on these bikes? Sorry for the long winded post but I'm getting concerned.

Get the trike out of that shop!

Yes, you could do a valve job without pulling the motor. You would pull the head and then do the valve job.

But either way, sounds like an ignor-amos ultra-maroon (to quote Bugs Bunny) working on your trike...

It's a pretty small mom and pop shop the only one around drove 40 miles round trip to find out the Honda dealer wouldn't touch it, I'm thinkin it's time to snatch it and get outta there too. At this point I could have had it done myself, I just wanted to sit back and relax while someone else does it for once, I guess if you want something done right you've got to do it yourself.

Get it out of there... If he has been running it around with the "washed clean" air filter chances are you will be doing another top end rebuild yourself now anyway!

Sounds like this guy could be the equivalent of having bugs bunny working on your trike. Do it yourself Doc.

Id get it out of there. pay him 3 hrs for the valve job, and if he gives ya problems point out that its been ridden and your not happy with how long its been.

Id tell him to step up or F off.

What specifically are you referring to as "valve job" and why does it involve messing with your carb and air filter? Whenever you seek any kind of service on anything, its best to have a written agreement on the specific tasks they are to perform, and in what time period. Most service disputes involve vague terms such as "X job" or "rebuild" and either involve the servicer not doing things that the customer thought were included, or doing things the customer did not anticipate under a sweeping permission such as "rebuild".

Valve adjustment or rebuild? Either one shouldn't take more than an hour. Hardest part is taking the gas tank off. Google Atc manuals and do the work yourself. I love working on them just as much as I do riding them. It's part of the sport.
