    250sx dies after a while

    how are yall, I am new to this site, we have a 1985 250sx that was sitting for a few years, but after working on it, it runs great now, but after riding for about 30minutes to an hour it dies, then you wait a few and it will fire right up and go again, just wandered if anyone might know what I should look for, thanks for your help.

    My guess would be that your brain box for the ignition may not like the heat and craps out until it cools off. It will a be a rectangular little box on the left hand side behind the voltage regulator. That or possibly your coil since that is close to the jug.

    When the bike craps out, grab and ohm meter and do this. Put your leads on the the two terminals of the coil, you should get a reading between .16-.20 ohms. The resistance between the plug boot and the black lead on the coil should be 7.400-10,800 ohms

    If someone has a scanner and a clymer manual, pages 244-246 and 263 could probably explain this better than I am.

    New module is expensive. Lists out 111 and I can get it to you for 90.56 :shock: , but the coil isn't too bad at $35.30

    Most of the time when this is the case, it means the coil is going. But it could also be the cdi.

    i had a a problem like yours on my 85 250sx. the gas cap vent was plugged up and not allowing air to get in the tank. when it would die i would take the gas cap off and put it back on. it would start right up then. fixed the cap and no proplems ever again.

    Clues to a 250sx resurrection!

    My first try would be the gas cap and the cheapest,It doesn't hurt to try.One of my first bikes were a 250sx,that was the best little four stroke I ever owned.I had the same problem with the one I had.If that don't work move to the coil and then onto the cdi box.Most of the time things like these seem to be the simplest things.It's better to find out before it takes to big a dent out of your wallet.Good Luck

    First check the gas cap to make sure air is getting in the tank, then check the carburetor and clean it then try it.
