    Post 1984 Honda 200x kickstart

Hello, I picked up a 200x a couple of months ago and I noticed that once in a while it Will make a bang when trying to kick it then it doesent catch, or most of the time when it mess' up it just will not catch at all, just keep moving the kickstarter up and down its definitely slipping... (only does it once in a while though ) Anyway I was wondering if it could be the spring in it that holds the gears meshed togeather? I looked by the VIN and there is no X punched by it so it doesent have the updated spring. Anyway I was wondering where I could get one of these updated stiffer springs? I will be tearing down the engine some time soon here, I already have the engine out because I will be doing a restoration Any help will be appreciated on where I can locate one of these darn springs lol.

Do a search on here and you can see how some have back cut the teeth that mesh together. I'd probably do that while it was apart as well. Sorry no help on the spring.

Yep your ratchet spring is bad and if its slipping replace both ratchet gears . I'm not a big fan on back cutting the teeth and never had much sucess with doing that . new is best IMO .

I thought those parts were discontinued but they show up on the parts lookup at Service Honda (except the spring).
