    Tire Size vs Power

I have an 83 185s that I want to put the tires off my 250 big red on. The big red has stock rims and stock 25 in tires. I can fix the bolt pattern issue with a hub swap. What I want to know is will the 25 in tires be too much for the 185s or will it be ok.

many have done it..can say I'd recommend it myself.

harder on clutches and transmission, especially if you are a bigger guy, if you like to haul a wagon, or mud bog.

If you are thinking of this as a permanent arrangement then invest in a different sprocket set to compensate for the gearing change, then it will be fine.

Drop one tooth on the front sprocket and you'll have essentially the same gearing.

Will 25 in tires clear the fenders on 185s

Those 'Mud Bugs' look pretty big..

Should be lots of room with most 25 tires, those ones look pretty severe. Watch your clearance on your exhaust..

All you can do is try!

The exhaust is within the frame on the 185s so that won't be a problem. I'm fixing to by 400ex hubs does anybody know what the offset is on them?

The offset of the OEM BR rims you mean? We don't measure offset on the hubs..

The OEM rims from a 250ES are 9x9 with a 6/3 offset..so the inner bead of the rim will hang back 3" from the hub, the outer lip being 6" out from the hub.

I forgot about the exhaust being inside..my bad. It's was about 13 machines ago that I owned a 185..

i cant remember if it is 1 in per side or 1 in total but they will make your trike wider.

Anybody know how I could get the 4/110 bolt pattern on the front of my 83 185s? Is there any hubs that'll swap or front ends that'll swap?

check your big red front hub. thats the only one i know of thats gonna run that bolt pattern. i think the sx ran the same or similar hub. i dont know if the bearing size is the same and there is gonna be some work to get over to the bolt pattern you want but i think it could be done.

I don't think the hub on my big red will work because it has the brake panel on the opposite side.

    Update (pics)

My hubs came in and they fit perfectly. They were 400ex hubs. The 25 in tires fit perfectly and I didn't have take the fenders off to keep them from rubbing. It's much wider now from outside of tire to outside of tire it's 46 in. And so far I haven't felt any power loss from the oversize tires. The tires don't come up on the inside of a turn anymore either. I like it what do y'all think?

It's got a totally different hub on the front of it. But are the 185s and 250es shock tubes the same diameter?
