What could be wrong?????? Please Help!

Im at my wits end with this 90 i've been working on. I started off with it and got it running by cleaning the carb out. It started everytime on the first pull but smoked alot. I pulled the head and cylinder off and put on a new set of rings. After I put it back together I have not been able to get it running. I have about 120 lbs of compression and this is with the engine cold. I have a fat blue spark, and i am getting fuel. I even have tried taking the carb off and just spraying a little starting fluid in the intake. It pops but not much. My valve timing is definitely good and the ignition timing should be set good enough to get it to start.

I had a friend take a look and the only thing he noticed after we spent about 3 or 4 hours on it was that the cam chain seemed to have a little slack in it. He said it's possible that the chain is stretched (which seems a little odd to me being that it ran before I replaced the rings) The only thing I am wondering is when I tighten the cam chain tensioner it doesn't seem to make any difference no matter how loose or how tight i make it.

Is it possible that the little wheel on the tensioner fell off or something like that? Any other ideas? I've put alot of time into this thing and all i originally set out to do was replace the rings.

is your cdi 180degrees off? this would make it get spark but i think the pistion would be at bdc instead of tdc.

Doesn't the engine lose a little compression as the rings wear out? Because if it does then since you put new rings in and now theres more compression maybe you should try adjusting the carb. I don't know if different compression levels require different mixtures of air and gas but it couldn't hurt to try, right?

    just a few thoughts

wouldent it be alot easyer to remove the spark plug to get gass in the cyl. then the carb?

if its a 90 are you sure it has points? i would of figured that points would be long since outdated but the late 80's?

Yeah. Sorry I should have been more specific, It is a 1977 ATC 90.

IT LIVES!!! Thanks to slippy4 I was thinking and It doesn't have CDI but he gave me an idea. When I took the motor apart, first you pull off the base plate that the points are on and then you pull off the pulse generator I think they call it. There is only one way you can put the pulse generator on because it is keyed to a certain spot on the cam. BUT... when I pulled the pulse generator off, The little lobe on the top of it came off. So I pulled this back apart and put it back on 180 degrees different and it started on the first pull. Now I can move on with fixing the rest of the bike up finally.

YEah... as I said. now its time to start making it look pretty. The tank says 110 but its not the one that is going on the bike. I have one all painted up and ready to go on it. I will post some before and afters when i finish it. Needs some work still.

Like I said,,, i've got a fresh painted gas tank and the forks are red too now. I painted the frame, Now I just have to put it back together. Im going to pull the wheels off and sand and paint the rims and clean up the tires. Also got a new chain im going to put on it since the old one was bent to hell.
