84 big red just installed new coil now having issues?

    Just installed this coil:

on my big red. Runs fine but the lights will not come on anymore when the key is on and bike is not running like it did before?? Also, when bike is running lights work but are very dim and high beam does not work at all. Can anyone shed any light on this. I was thinking maybe a ground issue.

Thanks for your replies in advance.

Must be a ground or connection issue, the igntion and lighting systems are separate from each other. There is two coils in the stator, one runs the ignition, one charges the battery and runs the lights, aka the alternator. So the coil shouldn't have affected it.

I am betting the problem is in your handlebar control and its just a coincidence, the light switch goes intermittent from getting dirty. I would go through all connections and the handlebar controls.

Hmm... Something else is at play here, cause i have an 84 and i have an aftermarket coil on mine, its one wire to the coil and has nothing to do with the lighting system.

Why do you need a new coil in the first place?
Kinda sounds like it runs and works ok.
    Like kb said, somethin' funny.

I've had a few 84 models and the bottom line with mine was:
Got frustrated and replaced entire wire harness only to admit that the old ones were probably ok but just by haviung to go through EVERY connection, they magically work.
Probably THE most frustrating models for me.
Mostly due to bad eyesight and having to memorize the wire diagrams.

Please keep us posted, and good luck.
