    atc 250r pipe

hi, i have a 85-86 atc 250r, i have boyesen reeds, 38mm carb, and the motor is a fresh rebuild, im planning on porting it mabey, but i have a a full FMF on it now, fatty gold sieries, and a power core, what do you guys think about upgrading to a full ESR pipe and silencer combo? i know itll sound alot beter, but is the performence noticeable, or even worth it? thanks guys.

The ESR might lower/lengthen your powerband a little, but I would stick with the Fatty for high RPM kick, the port will help.

you already got a little of my opinion over on youtube. you'll definately be able to feel a difference between the two. whether or not you'll like the overall feel is up to you. the esr exhaust is way pricey compared to fmf but still within reason and if you dont like it you can always get your money back out of it.

I have 3 different pipes, ESR(good low end) PT hi-rev(most mid and high) and custom LED(seams a good mix of all). If you are a woods guy, the best pipe you can get is a PT type 6, but it does sign off kinda early. I had a fmf, didn't like it much.

    porting

Being a former 1985 ATC owner the only advice I can give you is this. Find a good porter with a good reputation that does good work and is who you are looking for, second only do minor clean up on ports don't go too radical, 3rd match cylinder that is being ported to match RPM power band of pipe.
Now I have great experience will all 4 ATC pipes, OEM stock, FMF Fatty, Paul Turner ATC, and ESR ATC, now I will tell you this match your riding style to pipe, Paul Turner and ESR ATC are both hi-rev, and fatty is all around pipe. I rode my ATC at Glamis and that place is all to end or hi-rev in my experience the Paul Turner ran well and mounted on frame ok but it still felt a bit slower so decided and bought a ESR ATC5 pipe, out of the box pipe is pretty chrome and never had any issues with chrome, mounts a little bit better than the PT, and FMF, and performance wise what a difference in RPM range and power I was more than happy with it, and I was running stock 85 carb, stock cylinder. Only mods I had done was raised compression to 190LBS, and a set of carbon tech high tension reeds, good luck.

    I agree.

I was running the FMF Fatty system on my stock cyl with 38mm AS carb and good reeds. FMF is a solid system for sure, but my ESR likes the revs more. But I'm not sure its a really fair comparison in my case as I only have run the ESR on my mid-top ported 350 top end and only ran the FMF on the stock cylinder.

I have hung on to my FMF system and will be running it on my other '85 that I will be getting going soon.

Never had a PT but would like to get one to try out at some point.
