Might be picking up a nice 1985 tecate this week. Any ideas on what people have done to modify these. How about suspension it looks like it sits lower than the 1986 -87 tecates?

better question is what has already been done to the one youre looking to pick up? current mods? hows it run? best thing to start with is maintenance before modds; modding and unmaintained bike and youre going to have a bad time lol
The seat height is actually higher on an 85 than an 86. (I think 84 is about the same height as 86)I'm not sure what suspension mods you are thinking about but IMO the best suspension mod to a first gen is a +2 swingarm.
First thing to do is beat the hell out of it like you're supposed to.....then re-group and come up with another plan.

One of my favorite all time quotes is "They wouldn't make parts if crap wasn't meant to break". Classic lol

Just start buying everypart you can find cause they are scarce for the first gen. I'd buy a welder and a plasma cutter and make what ever parts you need!!
