    honda 250r vs 200x?

Hello everyone just have a couple questions about these two bike, i been wanting to buy a machine for the sand and now that tax are coming around i have the chance! I've just recently been introduced into the atc/atv world this year so mechanicaly im not the best, so im wondering which one of the two bike well be more reliable for me and easier to find parts for? along with that i understand the 2 stroke is faster but to me that doesnt matter as much as long as i can get around with my friends at the dunes and if it does come down to having to replace something i can find the part for not to expensive. So any of your knowlege would be appreciated my budget is around 1000 dollars and ive already seen a 200x and a 250r for around that here in the seattle, washington area im excited!

Hi! Well i've never driven a 250r before but I believe theres a lot more aftermarket parts because I thought the 250r fourwheeler had stuff that fit? Maybe i'm wrong but that's what I thought i heard. I'm fairly certain if something goes wrong and you want to fix it, it's going to be more money for that 250r. I myself believe 4 strokes are more dependable but that's me. For 1000 I feel you'd be able to get a nicer conditioned 200x than a 250r.

My opinion only sense you don't care about speed would be get the 200x. You should still be able to find parts for both.. I am still finding a bunch for my 200x on ebay.

    Good luck with your purchase!

A 200x is a great low budget trike. An R is a blast, and if mantained and tuned right is plenty reliable. They are less forgiving of abuse than a 200x though.

for a beginner rider the 200x is a much better trike and easier to maintain with less knowledge ...

200x to start for sure. You probably will flip a few times if you haven't ridden one before, parts to fix a 1st Gen 200X are all over for a decent price.

Not trying to hyjack, but I am in the EXACT same position as the original poster. I plan on buying one very soon, but besides the 200x, 250R I wanted to add the 350X to the list. I am looking for a three wheeler that is most importantly reliable and fun(thats a given). All three im sure are a blast to ride I'm sure but I just hate to break. That is what I owned a Banshee for, lol. I will use it for trail riding here in Florida(croom). I am open to any and all advice, because the only 3 wheelers Ive owned was a atc 70's when I was like 10 and rode em for years without a hitch but replacing the points. They were diehards. BTW fantastic site, its my first time here! Not the last though!

If your getting a bike for the sand i wouldnt get a 200x, i would get a 350x.. A 200x isnt the most powerful bike and to get up some of the bigger stuff you will have a tough time being a beginner on a 200x.. Thats just my 2 cents being a sand rider

Also, I want to add that finding parts for a 2nd gen ('86-'87) 200x is considerably more difficult than 1st gen. And when you find 2nd gen 200x parts you wil pay more for them.

I haven't ridden much sand other than sand beds, but I do know that riding sand eats up RWHP fast and a 200x might not be the best suited to it.

If you want good HP for sand plus better reliability look for a 350x.

Yes, the 250r is a very reliable trike when tuned and mantained properly, but you need to stay on top of it more than the thumpers.

And yes, due to the continueance of the 250r as the TRX, there is still a large and supportive aftermarket for alot of replacement parts all the way up to big bore/stroker engine mods.
    Trikes:
    '85 ATC 350R
    '85 ATC 250R
    '86 ATC 350X
    '85 ATC 350X
    '84 ATC 200ES Big Red
    '84 ATC 125M
    '85 ATC 110
    '85 ATC 70/110

If you have bought from me or sold to me, please leave me feedback here>>> http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthr...+RIDE-RED+250r

Neither of these bikes will be easy to find parts for, if your starting budget is 1000 however id go 200x

I'm gonna be the A hole that says 250R! I'm my opinion 2 strokes are way easier to work on than a 4 stroke. It really just depends on how u like to ride. If u like the "full throttle" with a power band go with a 2 stroke. If u like the low end power, go with a 4 stroke.

I've owned everything from Honda 70's to Suzuki 185 trikes to Banshees and everything in between. Trust me, I love my thumper 250SX, but it's no 2 stroke!

Nice thing about 4 strokes is u can put around all day if u want and not worry about them loading up. With a 2 stroke u are always "on the pipe".

So like I said, it really just depends on what you want/like. Just my 2 cent.

I would say a 350x would be a good pick, just have to know your limits as a 350x/250r in the hands of a beginner could be bad, they actually have the power to do something, 70s are fun because you can floor them and not really have a problem of it wanting to wheelie and flip on you except maybe in 1st gear .

If you don't ride in the sand so much, a 250es (Big Red) or 250SX are great reliable 3 wheelers, being shaft drive, no chain to bother with, but they are not the best for sand, heavy and such. They are more for trail riding and work, putting around etc.

LOL! I had a 70 when I was 3. That was what I learned how to ride on.

I have a 200x that I take out to the sand every other weekend I'm 6'6" 280lbs and my 85 200x has plenty of power for hill climbs doughnuts jumps wheelies or what ever else I throw at it. I ride with my two sons who are novice riders on a 85 125m and 83 185s those trikes are much slower and the 200x does a great job putting around the trails with them. I have never ridden a 250r but I can say for the best all around ride go with the 200x there is even one in the Seattle Craigslist right now compete bike for $500 or if you give the guy an extra $200 he will throw in a second near compete parts bike. Search posting Id: 3549055974 Also bent bike http://bentbikemotorcycles.com/ Has a pretty good selection of used parts, I grew up in Enumclaw WA, moved to Phoenix about 6 years ago. When I lived in wa bent bikes kept all my bikes and trikes going.

    Good luck!
    I'm bringing the 80's back!
