Our bank was just telling me to be careful with money orders. They said there has been a lot of fakes lately. I think I would say no thanks cash only. Unless he is getting a loan for it, then the bank might only issue a cashiers check very similiar to a money order. Either way be carful.

If I take out a loan for something, my bank will only give a check or money order, but you should be able to meet him at his bank and cash it right there. you dont want to run it through your bank account.

well , he says he had a fire and lost some stuff and insurance is gonna cover it supposedly and his insurance wants to do it this way ?? sounds funny to me...

If its legit than you should be able to call his ins company and find out, I would think. My ins has always cut me a check in my name for replacment items, but I dont know if they are all the same or not.

If that is the case do up a bill of sale and sell it with the clause that it stays in your garage till the check is cleared, usually takes about 2 to 3 weeks. your bank can also check on the funds available and source of a check with a phone call. But be super careful this deal could bite ya. how much money are we talking? If it is over a certain amount and it is a scam it could be a felony since it is a registered vehicle. I have sold bigger dollar stuff and took a check and the only time I let the item leave before it was cleared the check was bad. I went to the guys bank and they withdrew from other accounts and his wife and kids accounts that his name was on to cover the check.

money orders are usually only good to 500.00 each max. He may be talking a cashiers check possibly?? I have dealt with several money orders and have never seen one over 500. ??? There is no reason he could not pay cash if he is going to use cash anyway to purchase the money orders. Smells a little funny?? I would move on if I were you.

ill take MOs and checks. we just go down to my bank before bike leaves i get cash then they leave with bike. you can cash money orders at walmart or food stores i think too now days.

About the best I'd do is meet up with him at the FEDERAL post office with you.
Federal fraud won't do him much goodthat ought to scare him enough.
Find another buyer. I ONLY deal with cash!
