I've been making it since November 17th when I graduated from HVAC school and a "definate job" screwed me out of a job until January. All I had was abunch of parts kicking around and a totalled TOYOTA truck.

I could do it if I could get the parts. Anyone can do it and it doesn't even have to be ATC related. All you need is to find things you can get cheaper than what you sell them for or things you can rebuild or sandblast and paint. It is ALOT of work and can get demanding if you have too many auctions - but if thats your only job it isn't that bad at all!

I've met people at th UPS distributor that go to JOBLOT or BUILDING19 and other discount type stores and buy them out of crazy stuff like bread machines and triple there money on EBAY.

As far as ATC's and dirtbikes - some models don't sell and some sell very well. Seems like 200X, 250R and 350X have so many items that unless your items are quite nice you judt do OK. The 250SX market has been very good to me - lots of demand there. Dirtbikes that I've tried to sell don't get much at all.

I do my ebay selling mostly in the winter, I get laid off every winter and have alot of time to spare. I did enuff selling last winter to pay for 3 trips we took, one was a 11 day stay in daytona for bike week, and the other 2 were 3 day weekends to deals gap or the dragon in tennessee. I have noticed it is more difficult when you have alot of auctions running so I usually limit mine to about 10 or 15 at a time. I know its possible to do it as a living but it would be just as time consuming as a regular job, then theres no benifits. You would be your own boss but it takes alot of disiplin to be a good seller. I've thought about doing it as a living but I cant bring myself to give up my job. I think ebay would be perfect for a retired person to supliment their income.

While I am haven't been full time on Ebay I am currently sellling stuff on there now. When I sell I sell a lot of stuff. I am trying to keep 50+ items on a week right now. Yes, selling this much is work. But I have help so it's not as bad. Sometimes the money is good and other times it's not very good. I hope someday to make Ebay my main job. It will take a bunch of time, but the nice thing is you can take off when you need to. This benifit alone is worth a lot to me. If you need more money then start listing more stuff. Be sure you have a good supply before you commit yourself to 100% ebay. There is no unemployment if you run out.

P.S. I probably have a 2-5 years supply of atv parts listing only 60 a week on Ebay. That is just current stock we have. Pickle is always trying to buy more. lol

It can be done, but dont expect to get rich, and dont expect people to respect the fact that you are trying to make a living when it comes to paying what something is worth. Youre more likey to get ripped selling to people you know who somehow feel entitled to something for nothing even over selling to strangers. I usually make my friends bid just like everyone else unless its something that I pretty much know what it will bring.
The benefits are that if you happen to be a single parent, you can actually raise your child instead of hiring someone else to do it, while at the same time hopefully keep the lights and heat on, and the refridgerator from becoming vacant.

Of the 41 auctons I had that made 1300$ or more - many got too much money, I honestly felt bad about selling a front 250SX tire on a rim with the brake and drum for 125$ - that is TOO much but what do you do give a refund?? They started at 9.99 and people drive it up.

It ends up offsetting items like the shifter, rear brake lever and 2 footpegs that only got 9.99 total for the lot - that is just one example of an item I had to let go too cheap. Must admit that when I get something real cheap it makes me quite happy but now I know the other side of the coin!!

You shouldn't feel bad!! Thats not even right. Thats the whole point of an auction. When someone bids the price goes up. Depending on how bad the buyer needs/wants it,you can get very good money out of the product.

But,i also no that you will have your bad days too.

i have bought my house and made a nice living off of ebay. but that was before september 11th. after that day people do not spend money as recklessly. i would go to garage sales on friday and have everything posted on ebay the following day. the market has recoverded since then but i havnt really got back into it. i had 12 selling names so i didnt overcrowd the market. it is easy money very easy money but beware of the problems. i think i better working my four day a week job then dealing with the problems. i only ebay when i need to now. good luck

I gave up a mint driveshaft for 9.99 - no rust on the seal area!!! worth it's weight in gold.

Swingarm kit worth at least 60$ for 29$

    Good rear shock 9.99

    SX coil for 9.99

    Mint battery box for 9.99

It is definately frustrating watching your good parts go for next to nothing. But what the hell was I gonna do with 4 shocks and 5 battery boxes??

I think we all "overdo" the parts acquiring sometimes!!!

exellent guys great responses, I have never sold any thing on e bay just bought stuff ,what is the deal on putting a reserve on products ?
that way if the reserve is met then you get what you wanted for the item?
but then if it isnt met then you have to relist it ?
I guess what im asking is would it be easier to do no reserve auctions than having a reserve auction and not having the reserve met then relisting it( I think i just confused my self )
well take for instance of you put a reserve on that drive shaft dunno what itd be woth but say you put a res. of 50.00 could it then be sold to the highest bidder if the res. wasent met ?or would reserve auctions not be economicly viable if you had to continuously re list items that dont meet the res.

If the resevre is not met then you have to relist, I think you can sell it to the higest bidder if you want to.
