Got one input on this and am thinking it was the same thing. I am thinking Piston slap http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QXkWSwZitY
Let's hear your guys thoughts. 2 stroke bikes are a little new to me. Know my sled motors tho.
I pulled the flywheel cover and that bearing was super tight no movement.

Could be your rod bearings. Best bet, take the top end off and measure the play in them.

I cant tell really by the video. But try running fresh fuel of a higher octane. It could be pre detonating.

Piston slap. If you're not used to it, you will inquire about it. I see it all the time when guys get their first pingers. My Tecate had piston slap the entire time I owned it, and it ran like a top. No worries.

Fabio u thank you! The only thing Piston slap will just cause the bore to wear strange? And next rebuild will require a bore? Correct me if I am wrong. Never have had piston slap in a pinger.

Ya. That is not a normal Tri-z sound. That is piston slap I think.

I have never heard any of my Z's sound like that.

It's when the bore gets egg shaped front to back. It is literally the piston slapping back and forth. When I tell you that my Tecate did that the whole time I owned it, I'm talking for like 6 or 7 years, and I ran that b!tch HARD. It was plenty fast, never had any issues, but when you left it idling it would make that sound. My R does it now and that still runs fine too.

Nice Fabio! Thanks for the link Ripper. That sounds just like mine. I could swear it was! haha. You guys are really helping take the stress away! lol I was worried I would have to tear it back down and throw another 250 into the top end!
    Very much appreciate it! Todd

Like a lot of the guys are saying your engine sounds like a normal 2 stroke, but if you want to be sure of the condition find out what you compression should be and monitor it by checking if it’s gone down every 10 or 20 hours of use. Another way is to pull your pipe and look up the exhaust port once in a while. When you start seeing dark brown stains on the piston below the rings it’s time for new ones. If you see deep scratches in the piston then it’s time for one of those and maybe a bore too.

On a non-plated cylinder engine like yours there’s no way to prevent all wear, but keeping good rings in it will slow down the need for a piston and bore. The more worn the rings are the more the piston wears and the more worn the piston is the more it wears down the cylinder. Keeping good rings in it will slow down the need for a piston and bore and if you plan to run a new piston in a slightly worn bore make sure it’s a forged piston and not cast. Cast pistons don’t fare well in loose bores.

If it helps put you at ease listen to this engine at around 1:35 of this video you can hear what a brand new fresh Tri-Z engine sounds like. I think it sounds a lot like yours.
