Which Handbrake Master Cylinder can I use on my 1986 200x?

Hi, I'm resurecting a 86 200x thats been in my inlaws family for 20 years.

After removing the caliper and cleaning it up I found the piston is not frozen which makes me happy. However the plastic master cylinder reservoir was so completely dry rot I was able to practically crush it with my bare hands. The screws were seized so I ended up drilling them out and the master looks like it was pulled from the bottom of the ocean.

I'm also planning on rebuilding the front shocks after the brakes. The throttle cable was broken so I replaced that with a carb, cable, thumb throttle package I found on CL. After installing it and checking the oil it started on the 2nd kick! Amazing!

So my question is do I need to find a 86 200x brake lever w/master or can I use a 83-85 200x? I see some for sale on ebay from 450r, 350x, 400ex, 250r which claim to be compat with the 200x. Enlighten me.

Just about any trike, quad, or bike master will work fine. They're all very similar.

True assuming we're talking about fronts. Watch the MC piston size - 1/2" is pretty standard on ATV. For some reason, Yamaha (Banshee, Warrior, Raptor) pieces seem to be cheaper lately. I've been watching for my 350X project.

Rears can be more difficult but just about anything can be adapted.

Excellent, well that opens up some options and yes, were talking front handbrake. I guess if the clamps fits on the handlebars, the banjo bolt is a good fit and the piston is 1/2" we're good.

Good news is most bars are standard 7/8" and banjos are pretty standardized (10mm x 1.25)

While making your choice, keep in mind that a motorcycle brake won't clear a thumb throttle. Unless your running a twister, stick with an atv brake.

I used the cheap Chinese master cylinder. It's a to bleed and it takes a few weeks to come in but it works fine once it's bled.
