more ???'s on this beater i bought

buyers remorse for sure, and still not sure if i'm just going to 'pay it forward' but..

this thing has alot of play in the steering column...real bad..

i can rock the forks back and forth about an inch with the handlebars

is there a rebuild kit for the steering parts or is ebay my best bet ?

i should post a pic of this thing, cuz no doubt i'll be around for awhile getting this back in decent condition

If it's beat, fix it and beat it some more. It's what they're made for.

Steering head bearings are easy. Hardest part is getting the lower race off the steering stem. $40 and a couple of hours.

or you can buy a handful of 1/4 inch balls and some fresh grease.

That trike looks a whole lot better than the 1985 ATC 110 that I fixed up (including replacing the front fork).

This is a cheap and easy fix. Put a block beneath the engine to support. Remove the top nut on steering head. Remove top plate (triple clamp). Lower fork stem from frame steering head

There are 21 balls in the top bearing and 21 balls in the bottom bearing. Apply a thick layer of grease on the bearing race and press the replacement balls into the grease to hold them in place. Reassemble in reverse order and re-tighten threaded fasteners to appropriate torque.

ya doesnt look like a bad bike at all from the pics! but the bearing kit is not bad at all to install and they are relatively inexpensive too, good luck

Man, if that thing's a beater, then you have some pretty high standards my friend! Nice 110 in the background too.

thx for the comments guys. ya, i am a bit finicky, like to buy my stuff 'minty'...but the price was likely pretty good.

best thing is it runs, starts easy, doesnt seem to pop out of gear..

I would check to see if it just needs fresh grease and a tightening. I get my hands on so many trikes that have never had the steering stem nut tightened in 20 years, i clean em out and pump full of grease and tighten back up. Maybe new balls if needed. The All Balls roller bearing kits are nice also just a pain in the butt to get that lower race off but its do-able.
