    atc350x restoration info needed

    Hi Guys
I have a chance to buy a 350x project bike and was wondering if I could get some advice on how to and if it is a worth while investment. I checked out the bike that this guy is selling in a quick manner but I am going back for a second look in a few days and need some advice on a few things. First of all the gas tank has some dents and some rust, I d like to know if it is better to fill the dents or pull them and the heat sheild on the under belly of the tank needs to be taken off for repainting of the tank. What type of glue or fastener do you use to put it back on? Secondly, the stator cover is chipped out where the front drive sproket and chain meet, how can I fix it and will it leak oil out of there? Thirdly, how do you know if your cam chain is in good shape or not and if you have to replace it? The last question is would i have to rebore or hone the cylinder because it has some rust spots on it? The rust spots don't seem to be that deep. Let me know what you guys think and I should have some pictures of the bike the next time i go to see it.
    Thanks 350xman
No- Point in standing around and just watching! Get out and ride!

First off...how much is this bike?

I'd say paying up to $500 isnt unusual for a 350X project bike.

You can probably find a nice tank to replace that for 60-80 on eBay or go with a plastic Clarke replacement tank.

I bought a 2nd 350X and noticed a chunk out of the cover. The experts have told me that there is a hollow cavity in there. Oil will not come out, and other than cosmetics, the motor will be fine.

350X is always a good investment!!! I got mine looking pretty good. Now I am using the parts from my resto bike to improve a second 'daily driver' bike I bought. To get all the bells and whistles though you can sink some money easily, but if you want a nice rider, you can find parts on the board here and on eBay pretty reasonable if you shop around.

Where are you from?? I'm in NY. Seems to be some good sources of parts and knowledge in the area here!
