225 dx drive train problem/trouble shoot please help!

Ok I'll try and make this as simple as I can.... I was pulling a small trailer with my trike when something gave loud clanking /grinding noise from rear end. Now it just revs in all gears as if in neutral also I can spin the rear axle by hand in all gears.I pulled differential plug and the gears I can see are working and spinning. I also started it and peaked in the boot that connects to the motor and that is spinning so I'm thinking the problem is between there and the differential??? Ujoint or coupler??? Any and all input greatly appreciated!

You sound like you've done all the footwork to determine where the problem isn't..differential and transmission final drive seem ok.

I don't think there is anything we can answer that you don't already know. Time to get your hands dirty partner..grab a manual and some tools and have at it.

Most likely broke the long yoke on the universal joint ( part of the drive shaft ). These are some what common for failer ( I have seen 5-10 go bad over the years ). This part is no longer available from the dealer as well. There is normally 1-2 on ebay but they can be costly.

FYI, I just sold my last good one I had about 2-3 months ago.

What do they usually go for Howdy..I have a decent 225DX parts trike and would consider getting it out of the shed and pulling the part. does the engine need to be removed like the Hondas?

I have seen them go from $45 -$100+. I seen one used one go for $90 plus $10 shipping.

You either have to pull the motor or pull the swing arm. Both can be a pain.
