    Another Reproduction Challenge... Who Can Do It??

    Alright i could have sent PM's but i know there is a few guys on here doing repop of parts.

    Any of you think you could tackle the sub-trans shifter knob for the 200ES? Mine broke, made an ok working sub for now but its too tall and hits the fender when shifted to reverse. They are not available anywhere that i can find, and used ones are never in good shape, and even if they are they are generally dried out and about to crack anyway.

    I think it could be done fairly easy if you could locate one to mold from, as for screwing it on i believe its a 10mm bolt but i would have to measure that again, a couple nuts in the mold perhaps to make the threaded attachment? You know better than me just thinking out loud!

    I know a couple other guys with missing sub-trans knobs as well so thought i would bring it up.

    I forget what that shaft looks like.
    Seems to me mine may have been knurled with a press fit.
    Pull knob Long gone.

    Moulding in a nice long brass nut sounds like a great idea...maybe into some epoxy
    resin?

    I am pretty sure I have a good used knob at the shop. I thinking they shouldn't be too hard to repo. I'm not committed to repo'n them until I find out what condition the one I have is.

    As always I'll donate a good one IF I have one lol. Scratch that, got a nice 84 in Sunday,,,with speedo . So I do have one if needed.

    Dive buddy Amy, well her man Dan needs help remounting a front tire on Amys Bigred (I took it off for him so he could have tire replaced), he has it ready for me to re-install.
    He bought a 200es out from under me pirate style (long running joke between him and I ) ,,, we could go have a look at Dans 200ES when your up Howdy ??? if we don't run out of time.

    If i had a good one to donate for molding i sure as heck would guys, but mine disintegrated into pieces and i lost them when they went into the lawn. There is a brass ferrule in the original knob and it screws on. I had to pull the selector out to get enough shaft below the threaded area exposed and then clipped on a needle nose vise grip with some rubber tape on the jaws so it wouldn't mar up the shaft and then i was able to use a pliers on the brass ferrule that was left of my knob and spin it off. I ran a die over it to clean up the threads and i think it was 10mm but like i said i would have to check again if you need me to.

    Anyway, if any of you guys repop these put me down for two for sure, i want one and a spare for mine. And i will pass the info to the other guys wanting one. I sent six emails yesterday to guys looking for the 110/125 trunk lids, so i hope that stirs up some sales for Howdy!

    I'm sure if you guys got a good one in hand you can make a good replacement! I tried a few stock knobs from the hardware store, i finally found an equipment knob that had a metric insert and put that on for now, but its too tall and its a pain, the stocker was just the ideal size.

    I made my own on my first 200es, it was an odd washer that the center hole off sets from the outer rim of the washer so it kind of sticks up a little, and put a lock washer + nut on top of that. Has worked great.

    I took a knob up to John's this past weekend. We discussed what, how, and what would be best on these knobs. We have concluded a machined knob would be best. I know most would like the knob to look OEM so it was figured we could dip coat the knob's as needed. I handed off the knob to Kevin to machine a couple parts. I am also going to try some other idea's here as well.
    The bad: The machining may make these knobs costly. If I was to repo them buying the needed inserts I would have over $125 in insert cost ( They have a 100 pcs or $125 min order ).

    I / we will update this as things progress.

    John and me have thought this out. We are 100% sure a machined knob is the best idea. Dip coating them afterwards should be easy. These should look OEM but instead of being 75% plastic our design / idea would be 90-95% Brass with a plastic / hard rubber coating. This would make them 100% more durable. The down side is we estimate cost to be about $15 a knob. I can't be 100% sure on this until I get a few price quotes.

    Wouldn't it be cheaper to use steel and power coat them a glossy black, or is most of the $15 mainly the machining costs, which makes sense to just use brass then.

    Oh heck $15 is nothing Howdy!

    When you said expensive i was expecting a lot more. The original replacement knob was something like $12 anyway when available.

    What does this look like?? I bought a goodie bag awhile back, has some odd levers in it etc.
