Man its just a matter of trial and error.I have two that I'm still working the kinks out on.when you clean your Carb you need to check and see if the float needle goes in and out of the seat smoothly.check the float height and make sure its right.do a compression, valve clearance check.you said you had it running so there shouldn't be a lot wrong with it.

Does it run strong through the gears?mine done practically the same thing.I could pull the Carb and there would be gas puddled up on the edge of the intake.still not 100% sure on mine yet but I did figure out mine was out of time due to cam chain slack.mine would start and idle but anything past 3/4 or a quick blip of the throttle would kill it.I tried 350 and 400 carbs with no good results still ran like crap either way.got my can chain and gaskets but haven't been real motivated to Yank it out yet.I have a 85 that has a Nos motor that I'm about done with that ill ride while I'm tearing down the other.hope yours is a easier fix.

the manual says that timing is pre set and cannot be adjusted.im not sure if could be done with a different cam or not.if so that may be why mines not lining up with the head.imvery curious about that and hope someone will have an answer.with no gas in the carb have you tried using a shot of carb cleaner to start it?
