    Cool I'm new :D 250r or 350x ??

Hi I'm new to the forum and I'm in search for a three Wheeler I used to ride these machines when I was young, now I want a big toy for the beach and warm weekends which are very Seldom here in N.ireland,

Stuck what to choose from a 250r which I love the stance it has, and the 4 stroke 350x I imagine has a few more horse power but seems to be more scarce.

First items im after are a clean frame and engine

Attached pictures are what I want end result I own a garage so tools and painting are not a problem I've built a few engines in my time too

    Regards Ross

In what universe is a stock 350x faster on top than a stock 3rd gen R???!!!

Rossgamble1987: Both machines are among the best trikes ever made for aggressive sport and race type riding. The 350x is kind of a jack of all trades. It has superb low end grunt, while still being quite quick up through the gears with a respectable 60-65mph top speed depending on the state of tune. Most of the info I have read over the years puts the HP of a stock 350x at right around 26hp give or take. GREAT all-round fun factor machine!

On the the 250r, particularly the 3rd gen waterpumper you pictured. HP numbers are a bit higher on a stock liquid cooled R. Much of what I have read over the years on these is that a stock liquid cooled R runs around 35hp give or take. Yes, the 250r is capable of higher top speed, around 70mph or so. It has a more race tuned suspension package and the power curve is much different than that of the 350x. Down low, the 2 stroke 250 is no match for a 350x. I'm talking at low RPM here, not necessarily low speed. But once you get that pinger "on the pipe" as they say, the mid-range through top end pull will leave the 350x playing catch-up. It's just the nature of a high performance 2-stroke and 4-stroke from that time period.

If you figure you will be primarily riding aggressively, then the R is going to be a good choice.

But if you want the ability to cruise around, yet have good hp on tap when you feel like tearing it up, the X can do both very well...

welcome to the boards! I love both bikes, personally I prefer the R these days but used to swear by the X.

I've never owned either of these trikes, but wondered the same thing. As these get older, one of my main concerns would be longevity/durability of the 2 stroke vs the 4 stroke? Does the 250R have a pressurized lubrication system?

Thanks for the replies gen 3 250r is what I was edging more towards parts here in Northern Ireland (uk) wouldn't be plentiful so all will be imported wouldn't be building exact rep I do allot of customised work so larger bore alu rads large swing arm and rear axel up rated shocks ect

So fist things first sourcing a frame and healthy engine

No like most 2 strokes, it uses the premix oil you mix in the gas to lube the crank/wrist pin and other bearings...
