    350 x IM IN LOVE

hello everybody this is my first post here.I am the proud owner of a 350x.I recently bought this trike in good condition for $650.I put about $ 400 into it.I had a tune up and the float and neddle was replaced and some other stuff.I cant believe the power of this thing it just goes and goes and goes, and this thing is an 1985.I am just trail ridding and to be honest i dont really get crazy with it but its amazing that for a $1000 dollars i can get a 3 wheller that does everything the 4 whellers can do and i dont have to worry about paying off a $4500-5000 loan like most people riding those over priced quads.Theres somthing about the 350x that just does it for me.Its the only 3 wheller i really ever wanted. 2 strokes never appealed to me and the 200 x or 200s where just not mean enough looking for me.I have two questions for you.Whats the difference between the 1985 and 1986 350x.And also besides the oil filter and air filter is there a fuel filter that needs to be replaced.I am addicted to this thing its weird but i want another right now.Greedy little basterd i know but i am hooked and rehab is not going to be an option.THANKS EVERYBODY......PS i dont have the equipment to post a picture sorry im not very good with computers and even worse with engines....

Hehe looks like another 350X love victim. Welcome to 3WW and I know the 350X love feeling. I've been infected ever since I bought mine in 1985. So ya it's chronic because I just picked up another one this past summer.

welcome aboard! i'm a victim of the 350X bug myself. i just bought an 85 roller and an 86 motor. i'll have mine together this weekend. i would really suggest that you buy a honda service manual for the 350X. they are great, and the honda one is the only one available. there are several on eBay for sale. the only bad thing about the 350x is all of the obsolete parts, but the guys on this forum can usually help you out if you need something. take care of it and enjoy riding it!

There are two fuel filters that I know of on a 350. One is a longer filter inside the gas tank you should be able to see with a flashlight, don't use a lighter or match :!: The other one is on the bottom of the petcock on the left side of the gas tank, its like a 10mm hex bolt you need to remove and there is a little screen, but turn the gas off first. TO clean the other filter inside the tank, drain the gas, remove the petcock by loosening the large nut and pull the petcock out. If your lucky the filter will slide right out, if not its probalby rusted in and you might ruin it trying to get it out.

There is also a screen behind the clutch cover that should be inspected if you ever take the clutch cover off, this one stops any large chunks from going into the oil pump. And be sure to change oil often if you want your 350 to last.

    Differences:

    Rear bearing carriers
    rear brake stays
    front calipers
    colors
    seat logo
    steering bearings
    clutch cable routing
    cam chain adjuster
    rims
    kick start gear ratio
handle bar bend (if you still have the stock bars)

and I'm sure there is more I can't think of

    350x

I agree that a 350X is a most excellent ATV. I took mine on a multi-state trail ride and was real happy with the perfrmance and reliability. Mine has a stock motor and exaust.

Yeah.... I restored one 350X and had to go buy another one for a daily driver and utilize all the spare parts I'd been accumulating! When I get done with the 'Daily driver' that one will be in good-good plus original too! hehehehehehe

I think MR ATC said there were 80+ differences.... here's some more that hrc200x didn't already have. Some of those you listed I didn't know like kickstart gear ratio, and handle bars. I have a Dirt Wheels article on the 86 that lists some more... I'll edit my post if I can find the mag.

All hrc200x stated earlier AND some more differences......
Fork boots (86 has like 2x's the ribs... for your riding pleasure...hahaa)
stickers on tank, rear mudflap, warning stickers, etc...
    helmet holder on 86
front hubs have different 'lock' for the different rim
front brake rotor (85 circles - 86 spiral) possible back one different too.
oil intake (86 improvement when on off cambers, wheelies)
steering stop 'guard' on 86 triple tree
top of 86 triple tree is black
tank flares on 86 are 'cut back' to reduce catching on front forks
toolbox end cap (flat like most on 86 cause of new bearing carrier...85 box has a 'nose' on it to hold the spanner wrench.)
    toolbox mounting brackets
rubber mounting around rear shock canister
    headlight/kill switch
86 frames frames have added strengthening... (later 86's have even more)
frame where exhaust mounts by grabbar.. one has a 't' to hold the exhaust and the other doesn't. (MR ATC told me I forget which model was which.)

oil drain plugs, one is allen, one is hex
crank case breather, when you take the tube off the motor, one is strait up and down, the other is at a 45 degree angle.
one has a gold dial for the rear shock compression adjustment, and the other has a black one.
In a scan of a 350x test from 3wheeling or dirt wheels I have (thanks to waterpumper) it said they changed the cam shaft ramp angles.
Another possible one is the front hubs, I think '85 uses bolts to hold the disk onto the hub, and a '86 uses nuts or the other way around? can anyone confim this?

I've always wondered what the steering stop guard is for?

That's a roger on the front hubs.... I think the 85 had bolts, and the 86 has studs and nuts.

Steering stop guard probably was an attempt to make it safer by eliminating a pinch point where some idiot future Quadboy probably got his finger pinch into it. ! Just wasn't enough effort to satisfy the CSC! :? (I get a daily double for using 'Quadboy' in a sentence! hehehe)
