1986 atc 250r/500

So this guy offered me a 1986 atc 250r with a 1984 cr500 air cooled motor in it, needs to be rebuilt, i was just wondering how reliable the motor is, ive read that they tend to grenade alot, im interested in it but if its going to require a new piston each month or even each year im not going to bother
