86-87 Tecate's with 38mm air striker??Pics of some of builds

Just finished up this nice 86 T-3 ground up build. Mods below
Dg head pipe pro circuit muffler
Carbon fiber reeds 38 air striker open air filter
    190 psi compression

I started with a 48 pilot and a 175 main considering the motor is has fairly mild mods this seem like a good starting point what pilot are you guys running in your air striker.
Pics below of some of my bikes the Tecate and a restored 86 r awaiting the full Esr treatment

On my 85r I am running a 50 pilot and 168 main in my 38mm a/s. I am still fine tuning with my needle clip. Its fairly close right now and I am on the fourth notch down. In any case, i would start your clip jetting cycle with the clip in the third notch and work up or down from there.

If you want your bike to idle good (without the Idle screw bottomed out on the spring PWK Carb), and have a nice smooth transition up onto the needle, I would put a 42-45 pilot in. With a bigger pilot 48-52, I have found that at lower RPMs the throttle response it fluttery and you could end up striping the plastic idle screw because it will bottom out on the spring. You may Also end up with a mid range dead spot or a worse flutter when you roll on the throttle. With to big of a pilot, you need to raise the slide to hi to make it idle.. That can also allow the needle to open just enough to pull gas up through the needle / main jet causing an even worse transition to your mid range power (needle is mid range). So, I suggest installing a 42 or 45 pilot. Adjust your air screw until it idles good. Then ride the bike around slowly in second or third gear. Roll on the throttle easy while in second or third and pay attention to how the response feels. If it has a boo waa flat spot, then you need to Richen the needle. If you have a dirty flutter, then you need to lean the needle. Raise the clip to lean the needle, lower the clip to Richen the needle. Once that is done, then work on the main remembering the boo waa flat spot or a stupid ripe crazy fast pull is lean, and the flutter is rich. Start big on the main, and drop it until it pulls clean at Wide open throttle.
