    Please help with Honda VIN

My cousin just got an older Honda 3 wheeler that has been totally repainted black - yuck.
All the identification stickers are gone and we are trying to figure out what model/year it is. There is suspension on the front forks and no suspension in the rear. It has a recoil starter - missing the recoil though.
The VIN number off the front is:
    JH3TB050XDC268514

Couldn't find any other id numbers on the crankcase or anywhere else.

    Any help would be appreciated.

We're not sure what size the engine is?
    We're thinking a 185.
We were hoping we could get all that from the VIN number.

    My research findings:

This is what I found out when I looked up the VIN# JH3TB050XDC268514

First the VIN# should be broken down into segments.

First JH3 - Gives the manufacture location (Japan)
Second - TB050 is the serial number
Third -X- is the check digit. Don't what it's use is
Fourth -D- is the year D=1983 B=81/C=82/D=83 and so on
Fifth -C- is the manufacture city Saitama (Japan)
Last -268514- Is the production number.

So about the only thing I can deduce out of this is that it's a Honda trike built in 1983.. Have you looked at the top of the engine case just below the cylinder head for a "CC" stamp?

Hope this helps. And I will put up a link soon to the source I used to find
    this out.

Ok here is another source for Honda VIN #'s.. The one I used was on a cd I got for my 81 ATC250r...

    Thanks for the help -
We looked for a cc stamp the other night and could find it.
I'm going to see if I can get a picture of it and get it up here for you guys.
It runs good - just needs a recoil.

This might help you a bit there CheddarHead..

    Here is a picture of a 1982 Honda 185s and a 1984 Honda 200s.
The 185s is the one without any suspension and the nicer looking plastics. Extaftian2's 200s is the one that has full suspension and the crappier plastics.

Does your cousins trike look like either of these?

    Hope the pictures help...
