If you upgrade the carb to something bigger, second gen-R or CR250 and so on, it'll be a little easier to find new carb boots. Not to mention the better performance of the carb change.

Another route is to fabricate your own boot. Made one up for my 82 R. Not very difficult, and has been very reliable.

Love the desert tank by the way. It'll be a fun project.

When you go to a larger carb, the manifold for the FL 350 works perfectly. It is larger and is offset like the OEM manifold. Unfortunately they were recently discontinued but you can get one off ebay. You can also get a billet one here: http://www.aftershockmotorsports.com...ntake-Manifold

That's a great idea! According to its design in the picture you could actually use the billet intake and pretty much use any size boot you wanted to accept any size carb. That's almost a dream come true for us 250r guys!
    Thanks for that link.

Those are some nice foolers. I had an 82 as well (sold it some years back). I ran a 34mm Mikuni (the stock carb from my 85 250
R after I put a 38mm flatslide on it), K&N, and a Bill's pipe & silencer. Bassani was a good pipe for the 1st gen R's, but I preferred the Bill's. The 1st gen R's are definitely in a class by themselves. The first 3-wheelers to ever finish (or even enter) the baja 1000!
