ATC90 "Factory Stroker" build

Been working on this one for almost a year now. I'll post pics in replies after i type all this out...


Started off i was just gunna freshen up and get my first/favorite trike ever running again. 79 ATC110. I killed it in a water hole on the river a couple years back. All it did was stretch the timing chain when it went under at WOT (LOL). Well, i start cleaning it up, painting the frame and all. then a friend was like "Hey i'll build the crap out of your engine for you" (10 months ago) So there it started. Well, now ive got a BAPP 55mm big bore kit, 69 SL90 transmission, 65 S90E manual clutch, Rocky race grind cam, Sudco shorty intake, bought the wrong carb (supposedly bought a VM24 but its actually 28mm so i need the correct carb), Super-Trapp exhaust, and a bunch of other stuff,, basically about $1400 worth of parts. (and this all started with a dead timing chain). and then i needed a frame to hold it all together. So ole ManBear hooked me up with a Nicholson. It's all cleaned up and repainted now, waiting on the motor to be done. and then i got to thinking about suspension, and ole RapidRick hooked me up with what i believe is a PK Racing front end, so now all i need is a front axle. Well i decided i wanted disk brakes. So i order front and rear 7" wave rotors and dual piston calipers off evilbay. And now i gotta just get my hubs machined up to run them as well as the mounting hardware and a shorter front brake line. I do gotta get my rear fenders repaired and get my fuel tank finished up and those painted and a seat pan made as well. It's getting there though.

But yea, i just got my engine PARTS back saturday so i am working on getting the engine together now. 10 months wasted basically.

But hey, it's given me time to build another Nicholson framed 110 in the process. It's my "stock" bike. being .050 over (getting a rocky 55mm piston in a minute though), MSR Glamis Grind cam, ported/blue printed head and intake and carb and its been rejetted. I need to go ahead and vent that one because i blew the stator side gasket out (herp derp) and i accidentally scored another trans shaft that will allow me to cut the high/low range out of this one as well lol

But yea, thats it for now. On to pictures. I'm not gunna start with the very first pictures of it as a stock frame and all. Just gunna throw up the more recent pictures, and if y'all wanna see its old stock self i can always put those up later.

Here it is all together as a semi-roller (sitting in our living room because my bedroom has too many other motors and is fixing to have my Z in iit)

The fenders will be repaired and painted with Krylon fusion true blue.

Here's the other 110 i've been piecing together. you'l notice it has the oil cooler on it (or had, i shoudl say). I was testing it out seeing how well it worked; Worked real well!!



and i did a custom cut for a front fender (didnt cut much off but it's got a decent look to it) since this picture ive removed the fender lift things


and the black bike has a custom rear bumper i made as well that you may/may not can see.

Sooooo....... where does the "factory stroker" name come from ? Nowhere in this thread does it say anything about it being a stroker. (other than the title)

I forgot to add that in there.....

The only difference in the ATC90 and ATC110 engines (from my understanding) is that the ATC110 has a 3/8" longer cylinder because its got a bit more stroke to it. So therefore, it's a factory Stroker 90. Get it?! Lol

I'll be having decals made up like the 76 ATC90 decals. The rear decal that goes across the back of the fenders will have Factory Stroker printed on the right side in the same font and everything. I was originally wanting to shoot for making it look "factory" like if Honda had built a high-performance 90/110 but then I got those brakes. And now I'm just building it how I want lol but keeping the Factory Stroker name

To each their own, it's your bike and you can call it whatever you like, but it's not really a "factory stroker 90" it's a factory 110. My 200 isn't a "big bore 185" or a "big bore stroker xr100" it's a stock 200 even though they are all based on the same engine. Also, when refering to a stroker you would refer to it by it's new displacement. You wouldn't say "a chevy 350 stroker" because a 350 is stock, a stroked 350 is simply referred to as a "383 stroker". A stroker 90 would be something like a 70 engine that has been modified for more stroke. You are correct though, a 110 is a stroked 90, although the pistons are also a little different. (different wrist pin) If you insist on calling it a factory stroker, it would be more correct to say "factory stroker 110". (technically a factory stroker 105)

If I'm coming across as rude or overly semantic, it's because I'm jealous. The atc110 is my favorite atv of all time, and you sir have one bad-ass atc110

I get what you are saying. To help with the look of it being a "Stroker" I'm thinking of using one of my 90 cylinders and having a spacer made to go underneath it. Pseudo Stroker!! Lol. It'll look like its got a big crank in it or something, but it'll just be a stock 110 crank with a 90 top end and a spacer plate underneath.

My decals will still say ATC90 though. Even though actual displacement is around 123-125cc AND the engine started off as a 110 anyway. It all works in my head in some way LOL

Almost ready to start putting the bottom end back together. Just gotta finish cleaning up the gasket surfaces, and gunna let the freshly cleaned cases soak in son gas to try and get that last little bit of sludge/oil/grime out of them and to make sure there's no junk in the bearings. As well as finishing cleaning the cases today I also got the shift shaft cut/filed down, and semi-polished the outer clutch cover. I need to get the crank and shifter seals so I can replace them while im at it.

I am ready to have this one DONE!!!


Oh, anyone have a picture of the BAPP 123 (55mm) kit with the rings installed in the correct position? There's a stepped compression ring and a non-stepped compression ring. As it is I have the stepped ring on top with the step facing up. How's it supposed to go?

Got the rear master cylinder mount all figured out, got it at the PERFECT angle so I will have 100% ram travel as well!

Thanks man,, I'm so ready to have her all finished up. I got way too many other things going on and this one is been sitting on the back burner unfortunately,,,, I did get the rear fenders patched up this passed week and will have them prepped and painted here soon hopefully! But in the mean time I'm trading my 400EX for a KX250 and buying another TT500 and another XR250 (probably tomorrow) lol

Ok. Had a big problem not too long ago.

I had purchased an entire 1963 Honda S90E engine for the manual clutch set up. This engine is the one with the 2-piece cover. This engine had the stock 1963 S90 crank in it. After assembling my transmission and cutting down then installing the shift shaft I began to assemble the clutch side of the engine. My intention was to put the engine together with the old clutches and a bone stock top end to be able to run it and flush a couple oil changes through the bottom end to make sure I didn't end up with any trash messing up a fresh big bore cylinder and ported head. Any way, the 63 S90E transmission drive gear (the big flat gear) went on with no problem what so ever.

However. The inner clutch hub gave me fits. It wouldn't fit onto the ATC110 crank. After doing some measurements I found that the 1963 S90E crank splines are 4mm wide and the 1979 ATC110 crank splines are 5mm wide. This was the only problem I had. After talking with Shortline he told me to get the inner clutch hub for a 1969 Honda SL90. This solved my problem completely!

The bottom end is together fully and the engine has been running with a stock cylinder and head. The transmission shifts perfectly now and the clutch works great.
The only thing I will do now is when I pull the engine back apart to put the new clutch disks (both steels and both fibers) Mr. Mike also told me to put the spacer/collar thing from the 69 SL90. I had a problem with the clutch not engaging completely until I took the adjustment nut out the perch. He says that the SL90 collar (this goes between the copper washer that butts against the crank bearing and the copper sleeve that the clutch driven hub slips over) is longer and gives more adjustability in the clutch. So I will get one of those ordered.

I do also need to order the correct Mikuni carb, as well as have the cylinder bored to match my Big Al's piston. Those should I think be the last two things I need to spend money wise on the engine. I will keep working on porting the head as I've got the time.


Yesterday I bondo'd the fenders. I'll sand on them some today and see if I can't make them smooth.

There is still a ton yet left to do, but the biggest hurdle (the engine) is just about done. Then just gotta get a front axle made, get a rear sprocket, figure out what I'm doing about the brakes, seat pan, and tighten everything up. Very very slowly. I think it's coming up on a year now since I started this one. May it will run before 2014,,,, doubt it though lol

Now it's just down to a good bore, carb and final assembly. Make run first, look pretty next.
