DIY 250R Rear Shock Rebuild

Gentlemen (and possibly Ladies)-

There has GOT to be some info on the process of rebuilding these shocks for the DIYer. After purchasing the necessary parts off of FleaBay, I took some pics of my teardown, but they came out crappy and I'm wanting to compare them to someone else's experience/process. I have access to the nitrogen to top off the job, I just need a schematic, diagram, pics, written description, ANYTHING to compare to when slapping it back together. As you may know, the service manual and Clymer don't get into the guts of the shocks on these, and I think it's time we made this info available for those that would like to attempt it on their own. That's the whole point of this site, no? I realize those that have experience in this field that do rebuilds at a cost would not necessarily want to divulge this info, but, you could make the same argument for just about every other facet of the rebuild process on these machines. Why not the shock? Please consider.

I found this when I binged rebuilding proceedure for 250R rear shock. Has comparisons and differences between the shock he is rebuilding in the pics and showa 250r shocks. Should point you in the right direction. I hope it helps.

If i knew anything about it, i would share. I don't have access to nitrogen or the spanner wrenches or, like you, the procedure itself.
I suspect others feel the same way and that's why no one is chiming in.

When you get it done, please start a thread and share with us.

I'd be glad to. Was hoping to get some experience to chime in here to make that possible... guess not. Honda must've been runnin' coke in the shock reservoirs like DeLorean and everyone's trying to keep it for themselves.

Let me know how it goes. I've got 2 suzuki rear shocks i planned on doing myself. Theres no way it can be so hard as to have to spend 3-400 to have someone else rebuild and revalve.

There is no "secret" process being held top secret.

It simply takes a little more mechanical and diagnostic skills. It can also be dangerous, Loius Mielke had one built and the nut fell off and allowed the shock to separate.

Then you have a high PSI of nitrogen, although an inert gas, any issues and you'll have a bladder c-clip in your face.

One simple fact many do not know which immediately contaminates the shock is similar to refrigeration. You hook up the hose and crack it at the schrader valve until it is purged and only nitrogen is entering, not the dirty air in your 3' hose.

No secrets. Valving and such is merely left to the professionals because they understand what to do for your weight, experience and riding style. We would merely be guessing......
