    Eying up two 1984 Honda ATC200X's

    I found a couple trikes that are pretty close to my location.

    They are both 1984 ATC200X's. One of them runs, and the other is a parts trike. The seller is asking $750. Is that a reasonable price?

    Let's say that I do buy them. If I do, I was planning to make an auto-x out of the parts trike. I was already planning to rebuild the engine for my 1984 ATC200M. I know that I wouldn't be able to use the electric starter, and I would have to make a cover for the hole, but would my 200M engine bolt up to the 200X frame?

    Yes, a 200m is a direct bolt-in. But you will need to use the intake boot off the 200x. FYI, if you want a little extra boost, the 200x complete top end slides right on to the 200m bottom end. Not sure about the electric starter? Maybe a slight tweak in the frame bar might get-her-done?

    That sounds simple enough.

    That's great news because the top end on my 200M engine is siezed, but the bottom end is free. I was planning to do a complete rebuild of it, anyway. The bottom end is free, though. Sacrificing the electric starter doesn't bother me.

    Would I be correct to assume that all the Honda 200cc crankcases had the same dimensions for the mounting points?

    I'll be making a call, later this morning. I hope they haven't been sold.

    Yes, I used the 200x mounting brackets. Fit perfect. They used the original 82 185s engine platform for every 200 series trike. Although I did run into a problem putting a 200x top end on a early 185s bottom end. The wrist pins were different sizes. But I belive all 200cc style top ends use the same pin. ( I just Finished a 200s to 200x)

    I talked to the guy today, and he still has him. I'll be going to look at them, next weekend. $750 seemed pretty reasonable. From what I've looked at, people seem to be asking $1,400 for one that runs. According to the ad, for the two that I'll be looking at, the one runs. The parts trike ran when he parked it, four years ago. If the the other 200X engine runs, I'll leave it alone and fix it up, as it is. I'll have to look at them.

    From looking at the pictures that were posted, the one that runs looks like it was well maintained. The only blemish was a cracked, front fender. As long as the fork is good, the cracked fender is minor.

    The parts trike didn't look too bad, either. The plastics are faded but intact. It needs a rear brake caliper and exhaust muffler. Otherwise, everything else seems to be there.

    The seller works out of town.

    750 is good for both if one is a good runner to start with. I would do it for sure

    Thanks for the replies. The guy told me to give him a call in the middle of the week, if I was serious about it. He'll be hearing from me on Wednesday. I was able to get someone to lend a trailer, so I'm good to go.

    I'll have to give you all an update if/when I drag them home.

    If I do bring them home, which other years are the same as the 1984 200X?

    Yeah like cornholio said, parts from a 83 or 85 are interchangeable. the only differences are the rear fender shape & decals, and the tank decals.

    I looked at the pictures, once more, and I noticed that there were quite a few oily spot on the concrete, underneath the trike. That doesn't strike as a good thing. I think I'm going to wait and look for a different one.

    How are you sure its from the 200x? If it is leaking oil, its not a hard thing to fix. Couldve just been engine degreaser or something.

    You have a good point, Cornholio. It's possible that I'm just over-analyzing things.

    I'll go look at them and see what I find. It's not too bad of a drive. I'll ask him to let me take it for a spin.

    What's wrong with me? If I have any problems, I have access to a whole bunch of trike sages to help me with the information side of things. LOL!

    Those look like water spots to me, he probably just washed em and the concrete is still drying. One of them has a 350x or 250r front fender. They don't look to bad, definatly worth a look.
