1983 Honda 200E carburetor issue
Good morning, I have an 83 200E. It wouldnt run at first so I purchased a carburetor from amazon. It worked but the bike either wouldnt idle and you had to keep throttle on it, or it would idle great and then mid ride it would just quit. I discovered the carb I got from amazon had a #98 jet and the venturi was a bit larger. So i pulled a carb off of another 200E, same year and everything, cleaned it up and put it on there. I adjusted the pilot screw per manual instructions and it ran if i held the choke on. I finally got it to run without the choke then it started to smoke, faint grayish smoke. I have adjusted, cleaned, tweaked etc, everything I know to do. Spark plug is good, was using NGK DR8ES, then changed to NGK DR8EA which seemed to work a little better. It almost acts like its running lean. Did I miss something? I tried to be as descriptive as possible, if more information is needed, please let me know. I appreciate any help. Yall have a great day.

Check the flow of gas from the tank to make sure it is strong. Also if you haven't already, take off the tank and rinse it out with gasoline. You will be surprised how much crud is in there and that can restrict the gas flow from tank to carb.

OK got the tank cleaned pretty well and refilled with fresh fuel. I put the carburetor that I got from amazon on it. It runs really well. Idles really well and has plenty of power. My only issue now is when you take off ride for a bit and shift to neutral it revs up a pretty good bit. But if I hold the brake shift back to first and back to neutral she purrs like a kitten. When I try to fine tune it it acts squirrel. So there's no smoke and no funky smells and a high idle periodically is the only problem. I can live with it as long as its not damaging the trike. Thanks for the tip about cleaning the tank. I think that did the trick. It was nasty.

Glad to help.
Sounds like there might be a little crud that needs to get worked out of the carb... I have had the high revs happen after warm-up before also. Don't know what causes it but someone suggested that maybe the choke is inadvertently engaged and causing high revs. ???

since you changed the carb check the cable for free play when it idles high also spray flammable carb clener around intake boot to check for air leaks.

I think its all good now. Starts and runs perfect. No knock no smoke. Its been great the last few days. Now I just need some nice wheels and tires and a paint job. Gonna try to resurrect one of my other ones now so the wife can ride too. Thanks again guys, its amazing what a little trash in the tank and carb can do. Y'all be safe.

Sounds great, good luck with the other.
