    185s rear sprocket/cush drive question

    Hi from the UK everyone, first time poster, long time lurker.....

    I bought a 185s earlier in the year which has been restored (badly) by the previous owner. Amongst a bunch of other little problems I have an issue with the rear sprocket.

    I've had a good search around the forum but I can't find the answers I need; what exactly are the bolts that hold the sprocket on, and how many bolts & nuts should be in the cush drive altogether?

    Currently, there's what looks to be a hex headed bolt with a smaller (m6 thread) piece on the end which the flange that holds the outer dust shield fixes to. Now, these bolts are all rattling loose - should they be studs that sit tight all by themselves, interference fit? As it is, I have no way to tighten them fully as you can't get a spanner on the hex head on the back. Surely you don't pull the axle just to change a sprocket??

    Secondly, the cush drive itself has four holes in it towards the outer edge near the sprocket teeth. There are no nuts & bolts in these holes to hold the cush drive together, the whole thing is being held by the four wobbly sprocket bolts. Now, as you tighten those four wobbly bolts (I've resorted to clamping the m6 section with vice grips) nothing seems to clamp together nicely and moreover, the whole deal is buckling inward stopping the dust cover flange from fitting on.

    Doe anyone have any exploded views or photos that might help me? Obviously, I don't know what's supposed to be on there and the service manual doesn't refer to it specifically from what I can see.

    My gut is telling me the drive flange is ruined and those four sprocket bolts should be firmly seated by splines or similar and there are nut & bolts missing from the cush drive so the forces are going all over the place.

    Your thoughts please; Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    You must have the 81/82 model . yes the axle should be removed to work on the rear sprocket .

    Yes, I believe mine is an 82.

    I can now see a couple of things; Part no 26, 31 & 29 are missing from my trike completely. Parts no 23 & 24 are present & correct. However, the whole reason for me going in there in the first place was because the chain case seemed to be buckled and the outer dust cover was fretting on the case. I now see that part no 22 has been replaced with a regular bolt and consequently the case is being squished in further than it should and is putting the whole thing out of shape.

    I was surprised to see a cush drive in there. I'm definitely getting rid of that, thanks for the ebay link.
