    Rebuild/rework the range

It was a long few days but I was able to build a 12x15 foot deck off of the original shooting shed (7x10), add a roof and tie it into the shed, bench(s), rehab the pistol range and redo the rifle range backstop (old foundation, back wall had fallen down over time so a bunch of stone work) followed by a new backstop/target holder.

The previous owner use to shoot out of the shed, too cramped for me, I prefer to be outdoors but do like some cover (mostly for the range bags/guns etc)

    Getting started

About done, I used clear roof panels for extra light it would let in

    pistol range, 50 yard

Rifle range, what is downrange of shooting deck/shed, 100 yards, rebuilt foundation wall and new backstop/target holder

Closer look at target holder, 6x6 construction with 'vents' to allow some action targets such as clays, cans (as seen) etc. as the wood gets shot up, it can easily be exchanged with the removal of 2 lags

target board placed, has a 6x6 on the back that fits into any of 3 slots as needed

Side view of target stand, it has 3 hanging 3/4" 4x6' rubber mats inside and one on top, 2 smaller 3x4' on each side to cut down/stop ricochets. These just clip in and can be exchanged as needed, side panels can be flipped up for access

Just need to mount the 22 caliber spinner/reset target off to right side (that is why lowest 6x6 is longer and some finish work on deck along with a ceiling fan (bug control)

    Nice job!

We just built new shooting tables at my Dads range. We have 1 back stop with 4'x8' tables made with treated wood and TREX decking on top spaced at 25yd, 50yd, 100yd, 150yd, and 200yd.

what is your backstop made out of?
previous owner used the rock wall with just a sheet of ply, I felt this would cut down on fliers and still allow me to recover some lead for casting. I really don't want to dig though a big pile of dirt.

We have used telephone poles in the past but right now we have a wall of railroad ties. The telephone poles seem to hold up better but the ties stack easier.

Behind the ties is a big pile of dirt.

We had sand piles at the family concrete plant.
EZ to get lead out with beat up gold mining equipment like a 4 foot sluice box. I remember hand diggin out some hefty '06 slugs as they don't go too deep...less than a foot?
Dirt seems to cavitate and hold holes open but sand drops back down onto itself.

My last time in Mass, the welcome sign scared me. 1975?
Something about mandatory control laws so hunters would actually
drive aROUND the state to go hunting in VT ME or NH.

Guess that's all changed a bit?

    Nice fun looking property.
Love the fieldstone. Not too hard to split for some beautiful
    walls and fireplaces.
    Nice work.

Sweet, time off and still working, however, it's on one of your projects. I have a gun club here you can check out, just 2 lots away, if you swing by.

    Take care Scott!!
