    It gets better...

Silicone + slice of bud light box = kick starter cover gasket

Saving grace from this pile of Yamaha is the clutch side cover is good...

Can we assume the previous owner was a finalist on Junkyard Wars? So it took you this long to jack the boot off?

    this motor sucks

flywheel ate my puller so right side is the only side comin apart.

    heres the recap:

    head was JB welded on
cylinder had beer box base gasket, JB welded on
reeds were JB welded in, no intake gasket
intake boot JB welded to reeds, no gasket
carb JB welded to intake boot
kicker side cover beer box gasket
    puller eating flywheel

still have that carb.. if someone wants a free project! i got the boot off of the reed cage, but couldnt get the carb out of the boot. i can give you a 64% guarantee that it'll work 100% of the time and it'll only leak 85.5% of the time

Laugh all you want, but by eliminating the manifold gasket and using a thicker base gasket (aka beer gasket) to raise the transfer ports and lower compression the engine builder likely gained an additional 50RPM at the top. Seems to me this guy was way ahead of his time.

Seriously, I’m just glad he didn’t use a Dos Equis beer carton, or you guys would be making jokes about Mexican mechanics.

I despise the JB Weld... But hey in a pinch on the trail it can get you home. However i will say this, if you havent used a cardboard gasket at least once in your life i'm surprised. I remember back in the day as kids if we were fixing something and couldnt afford a gasket we would take our time and trace out the part and cut a cardboard gasket out of a beer box or a pop box, grease the gasket a bit so it didnt stick and slap it back together. Works great honestly until you can scrounge up the right gasket. Now days i buy a sheet of gasket material, but its not much different just costs more. LOL

I'll take the challenge. If you want to send me the carb I will use my wicked ways to pull em apart. Send me a PM if you really don't want it.

Cerial Boxes make better gaskets. LOL I had a 54 International pickup that the water pump leaked around the gasket. I bought and installed a new gasket and it still leaked. Took it to a shop and they installed a new gasket and it started leaking within 2 weeks. I made one out of a cerial box and it lasted for 2-3 years before I had to park the truck.
