big red fuel issues?

i have a 1983 honda 200e and recently cleaned the carburetor and it was running nice. The next time i went to ride it it was running good and then died when i gave it throttle instantly. I started it back up and it idles fine but when i give it throttle it dies. I took off the gas tank and checked the fuel filter in there and it was covered in rust. I cleaned it off and tried again and it still died when i gave it throttle. So then i took apart the carburetor to see if there was any rust or dirt in there and it was totally clean. Do you think there might be a chunk of rust stuck in the throttle cable needle? I dont think the gas line was plugged up either so i dont know what it would be. Any help? Thanks

I know you said you took the carb off again and it was clean but did you clean it again. I would clean the carb one more time and blow everything out with compressed air, take the fuel line off and wash it/blow out or replace just to be sure. Then add an inline fuel filter for a law mower just for safe measure. Sounds like your main jet is clogged up. Just my .02

Pull the jets and the needle seat, usually you will find the tiny holes of the jets clogged with rust and junk. Definitely a carb problem though from what your describing. May look clean but its not!

okay thank you for telling me that i intalled a filter and it seems to be running fine noe but i also cleaned out my gas tank too because there was rust bouncing around in there

Rust sucks.. But a good filter and some cleaning and you will be alright. If you have to you can always pull the tank off and clean it out really good, give it the apple cider vinegar treatment!

do i just put a bunch of apple cider vineger in it and shake it all up?
