    1983 honda 200 ignition question

Hey guys, I have been tinkering with this trike of mine for a little bit and she seems to run extremely well (given the fact that she is 30 years old). Having said that, she does sound like she misfires from time to time under very light to medium throttle (mostly cold).. Shes got a new plug and the carb is nice and clean.. I do have to mess with the idle to keep it from stalling cause it wants to idle so low at times.. I bump up the idle to where she is nice and happy and then after riding it for a few it seems to idle to high. I was kinda hoping that I wouldn't have to fiddle with it so much on the idle part... perhaps I am missing something. The misfire also bother me cause its right in the sweet spot for just putting around. Not sure where to start for the misfire. Any help on this would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Mark

You will get more responses i am sure! But during the week the day job gets in the way... LOL

You said the carb is nice and clean, did you pull it off and go through it? If so did you replace the o-ring on the front of the carb that seals it to the intake? My 200ES was doing that too, changing idle with engine temp, it was due to an air leak at that dang o-ring. Scratched my head for about a half hour and kept readjusting the mixture screw. Finally i tore it all down, replaced the o-ring on the front of the carb and the other one that seals the intake to the head and put it all back together and the moving idle speed quit.

Also, have you pulled the plug and looked at it, running rich or lean?

Yes the carb is clean, when I removed it the rubber insulator that mounts it to the head came apart so I has to replace that along with all the O-rings that help seal the intake up properly. I haven't pulled the plug yet but I will do that today... Id imagine the color your looking for would be a nice golden brown on the porcelain to indicate a proper mixture.

Ok, and yep a nice tannish brown. Plug reading is the best way to get it tuned up!
