Testing the waters. 200x aftermarket intake repros... PICS!

So, with my recent adventure in making my own 200x intake, i've realized that its tough to make it. its a real PITB actually... with me unable to find any aftermarket intakes, while people on here have them (but they're in use), i just sitting here ...
My first go-around the "First-Gen", the angle was off, and the intake was pointing the wrong way. So, i've been designing the "Second-Gen" aftermarket 200x (or any 200 for that matter, 200m/e/x/s)... this time, its a two-piece design. piece #1 is a flat flange that bolts straight to the head. piece #2 is a 1" x 1" piece of Aluminum pipe TIG welded to the flange. together, with the right angle, you get something like this:

Now, that 3D part isnt perfect, theres no hole through the middle because for some reason Autodesk Inventor wont let me create the hole, and also the angle is not 100% spot on, but it is a very good estimate of where the pipe will sit. the dark part at the base is welds.
If enough interest is created for this, i'll put up a 3WW Shop item and maybe an eBay item.

Prices are TBA, i need to calculate raw material and labor costs, they will be payable with one bill though

it allows the same flow as stock, i believe, if thats what you mean, but it allows you to put on other carbs more easily, like a 28mm mikuni, which is what i'm using mine for.
if you take a look through page 8 of my stroker build, you can see one on shortline10's bike with a 28mm flatslide carb. yaegerb also runs an aftermarket intake, but he kept the stock carb I think.
If you need more airflow through the intake because of a larger carb, these intakes are the way to go. I dont really expect to have a production-ready model until maybe early-mid november. i just have to keep making tiny changes until the angle and stuff works 100%, which takes time, but it'll be worth it.

Ok sounds good. The 200x is my favorite bike and I plan on building one if mine for the track. I will be keeping an eye on this thread.

I'd be game for 1, maybe 2 depending on price.

Is/are the angle/angles the same on the other 185 and 200 models? I thought that they were a bit different due to the different airbox designs.

you hit the nail on the head, scooter...
my first-gen intakes came out at the wrong angle because they were made for the 200s, which had no shock, and so when I made it (with the angle close to a 200s one) the intake got the carb too close to the shock (200s is hardtail). the intake would be the BEST fit on a X, but i'm just saying that its possible to use them on the other 200/185 models.

Thats some great skills drawing bud!!

I would imagine the flange could be laser or water cut on a cnc table and the aluminum cut on a chop saw at an angle.

It's important that in the end you guys all match this to your head by opening it up to 28mm for nice flow.

I will be running a CRF150 FCR Carb that I believe is a 32mm carb; So I have some work to do as well.

It can take it with all the head porting, SuperTrapp and 12:1 piston.

Now I have 2 CRATE 86/87 motors to play with as well; I have seen 3 in 10 years and let SEABASS ( not sure where he's been ) bid on one and I promised not to fight for it

You're right steve, the flanges are going to be waterjet cut. My first prototype hopefully will be cut tomorrow, and then I'll check fitment with the head. The pipe cutting is kinda tough, because not only does it need to go down, but also left at the same time. I'm experimenting until i get it 100%. The whole thing is 6061 aluminum. I can powdercoat them, leave them raw, or send them off to be polished.
So steve , how many would you possibly want? Im trying to find out how much interest is.

Oh and the ID of the aluminum pipe is 27.7 mm (1.097"), so it needs minimum porting to reach 28mm. Thigh, once we smooth out the insides, it will be about 28mm. I'm not sure if 32mm is safe

I am running a 28mm roundslide mikuni on my mossbarger intake. I am in for one of these as well. Put me down for one.

I will make one for 32mm myself out of 32mm tubing and machine a flange on my Bridgeport mill.

Speedymetals.com has ALL the sizes we need. I will mig weld it all together and run a pod filter.......

    Aluminum is great though!!
