    Mule deer excitment!

Sunday morning we got up at 4 am and had a hour and a half of travel time. Got to the area, met my buddy and we had a little talk about the plan of attack. HE knows the area well and gave us some advice. So me and my son headed off and told my friend see you later for lunch. Started up the mountain and as we got higher the fog was way too thick. So frustrated we headed back down and found some area where you could see some what. Decided to walk a little and then sit. Five minutes after sitting I blew on the grunt tube and all hell broke loose. We had deer grunting, thrashing the bush and making squealing noises I have never heard before. The deer were very close to us , but the fog had rolled in and we could only get little glimpse of them. I would blow on the grunt tube and for 20 minutes we would get all kinds of crazy response but could never get decent visibility. So exciting and frustrating, I have never had that level of response from mule deer. Finally my boy said this is enough, we can't see them , Lets just go at them. So maybe because of the fog and being that it is full on rut time. We walk right into a pile of deer. My son was about 20 yards ahead of me when he started shooting. Took 3 shots and he got it. Very steep country so it was a lot of work and I am sore. But it was a blast and was so worth the sore knees and bad back. Very proud of my son.

Nice work guys, beautiful deer. Hopefully the pulling was all downhill. Ever watch a video on the gutless skinning method? It's a great way to get animals out that are in tough areas inaccessible by vehicles.
