Riding New Paltz NY

I will be moving next month near New Paltz NY. I am unfamiliar with the area and looking for people to ride with. If your familiar with the area and know of some place to ride off road that would be appreciated. Thanks

Local bike shops usually have maps and places to ride.
Is there any BLM land on the east coast?
States are different and some even require a safety card and maybe even insurance to ride on public lands, spark arresters and noise limits. ez $ for the park rangers.

I think I can search for OHV or off road riding right with the DMV.

I was speaking to a local and he told me there is lots of land to ride on and most likely that's kept a secret. I am new to the area and will be moved in next month. Let me know what your findings are. I am running the ATC with a quiet exhaust so I don't draw too much attention to the ride. However the loud pipes do scare away the coyotes. I prefer not to ride by myself on unknown trails. My zip code will be 12561.
